Immune System Timeline

  • First Contact

    First Contact
When you first come in contact with a food, you don't have a negative reacton. Your first contact could be as obvious as eating it, but as subte as touching it, using a product containing it, or breathing in air exposed to it.
On the inside of your body an IgE antibody is formed and attaches itself to cells found in the tissues in cells all over the body, so that next time you come in contact with that food, your body will fight it.
  • Second Contact, Allergic Reaction

    Second Contact, Allergic Reaction
The food allergen enters the body again. The allergen is detected by innate immmune cells. These immune cells determine the reaction they will have against the allergen.
  • Irritation

Acute inflammation occurs. Your immune system does this to combat infection. You will now have redness, heat, swelling, and pain.
