Hello, my name is Cortland Thomas. I am from Great Britin. i am coming to America because I being convicted for the murder of my best friend that i did not commit. the only thing I am bringing is the cloths on my back. -
Arrival
I woke up on this hot summer day, and saw the beutiful New York Skyline. This was a relief after the harsh and rough journey to Ellis Island. When i arrived i relized that i was one of the few lucky ones. I spoke their native language. It wasn't that bad to go through the legal aspect. The hard part was sitting there weeks on end. -
Detenetion
The harshaffects of Ellis Island were getting to my head. i was going crazy. i just wanted out, to see the world, and to start my new life that is just steps away. One day a man that looked to be about 28 years old came up to me while i was complaining about being there for so long. the man told me that there were people with worse situations here that needed out. I just seemed to snap. Right then, i punched him square in the jaw. i knew that i was going to be there for a while longer. -
WEST!!!
After working on the railrods for 5 years i finally was able to get west. I had put my blood, sweat, and tears so that others culd get west. now i was able to actually reach what i had longed for for years. the best of this experience was the fact that on this long and hard road, i meet my amazing wife. Her name is Elizebeth. she is great and everything i could of dreamed of. -
Farm
The west was everything that i wnated. It lead me to my wife and it gave me a job on the railroads. The one thing it didn't do for me was help me escape my past. On this day my farm was burnt down by some brits. Elizebeth and I came home to see some people from Britin setting our farm a blaze. We were devastated. She asked why this would happen and when i told all she could saw was don't they know you didn't do it. Unfortunatley it wasn't that simple. -
John and Marcus
On June 16th, after all the struggles i have gone through, my 2 twin sons were born. this dat was the same date that on it i left Britin for america. My 2 sons, John and Marcus, are one of the best things that has happened to me. I am very excited for this gift to me and my wife and can't wait for the years to come.
