Ching Wu (brother) runs away from home
Today, Ching Wu ran away. It was a devastating event for my family that he would do such a thing. Rumors are that he ran to the United States to explore the land, see the industrialization growth, and build his own house. Some gold and silver have been stolen from our family so it would be assumed that that was his doing.

I want the frredom that America promises. Right now I am on a boat that is taking me to Angel Island which is the immigration station I must go through. I feel a little guilty for taking silver, gold, silk clothing, a couple peices of furniture, and diamond jewerly from my parents but I know they have much more.

Today I finally got through Angel Island. Since I am of the wealthier class, I got through much quicker than anyone else there but it was still a long and boring process for me. I am excited to be able to go and ask around to find my brother. It is time that he and I should go back to our family in China. The place I have been living in is disgusting, so I am excited to leave. Plus I heard of lots jobs being open, if I have to get one for more money.

Rumor was that my brother has made a living down West. I am now going in search of him so we can finally be reunited. I have been living a cozy life in a cottage, where no one bothers me much. To be honest, I wan to leave for life has become a little boring. Plus, there has been rumor of free land. I now write to my parents everyday. They send me lots of money from the dynasty to survive here. I am living off of their money and the money I got from selling the valuables.

Today, I made it to Oregon. This was another long and boring trip for me. I am homesick and also long for my cabin in the woods. I cannot wait to find my brother though. The Chinese Exclusion Act has prevented my parents from coming over here to meet me. I miss them terribly so. I rented everything I had needed for the journey to Oregon, and yet it was very uncomfortable. I am so excited to see my brother!

The abd news is, he got infected with Cholera and is living in the nearby hospital.I shall pay his medical bills with some left over money in order for him to get the best treatment he can. Unfourtunatly, I have also decided to stay here with him, just until he gets better and we can go back to mother and father in China.
  • I start to work at the Hospital

I start to work at the Hospital
Times have gotten tough with my family back home. My mother and Father are doing fine, they have plenty like always. But, the moeny they are sending to me is getting intercepted and stolen away from me. I now have to work. I have never had a job before in my life. Tomorrow, I start to work at the hospital my brother is staying at, to be closer to him is an extra payment for me.
  • The hospital shuts down

    The hospital shuts down
Today, I got the unfourtunate news that the hospital I work at and my brother is staying at is shutting down. I don't know what to do about money and where to put my brother for he is getting sicker by the day. I wish there was something I could do to help him live through this. Although I fear that even I, healthy and young, may not be able to live through this myself. I have decided to get my brother on the wagon I had from the Oregon Trail, and go back to my old cabin.
  • My brother dies

    My brother dies
Today, my brother drew his last breath. We had just gotten back to my cabin, too. He was so young and so full of energy. It should've been me. I don't know what to do with my life anymore. Taxes are taking away all the money I have, and I am working odd jobs in order to stay alive. Yet, I still live in this cabin, alone, left to the presence of the woods that surround me. I think it is time I return home to China. Goodbye, America.
