Coming to America
Hello, my name is Thomas payne and i was born and raised in Ireland. I have heard about America and how new the land is there so that is one reason why i would like to immigrate. I have also heard plenty about the city and how you can find many jobs. I am also wanted in Ireland for a robbery. In a small town jewelry shop i robbed 500,000$ worth of jewelry, so I need to get out of Ireland before I am caught. -
Ellis Island
I took the stolen jewelry and traveled to the great land of America. I rode first class on the voyage over to America and it was well serviced. Once I arrived at Ellis Island I immideatly went and found a place to stay before i decide what to do -
Business
I opened up buisness called "Payne's Jewelry" and thats where i sold my stolen jewelry. It started off very slow and rent was getting costly. I ended up having to give away some the jewelry to pay my rent. -
money
After a while my buisness picked up bigtime. It started getting popular and it becane the main spot for upper class men and women to get their jewelry. -
Love
One day there was a well class lady in my store. She relized that i must be prettty wealthy to own a store like I had. She seemd to be attracted to me and was flirting a lot. I saw this and asked her to dinner that night and we ended up building a relationship. -
Poverty
Everything was going good, i had a great girlfriend, wealthy business, life couldnt be better. One morning i had gone to work and noticed that my store was robbed!! All the jewelry was gone and no money was left in the cash drawer. I had no money and therefore i couldnt stay in my home. I realized what my girlfriend was really in love with, she left me right after i was robbed and said i was poor and she doesnt want to live like a bum. -
Moving West
I had no money and no land,this was the reason i wanted to go west, i decided to take my stuff and move west. The Homestead act allowed you to race with many other people to claim your land for free as long as you stay there for 5 years. The journey was tough especially becayse i had no food or water, i stole a couple of meals from others during the trip. -
No Ride
One problem i faced was that i had no ride in the race. I had to steal a horse, the horse did not ride very well and was not fast at all. -
The race
The race started early in the morning, we all took off together but not many made it through the hills and rough ground. I was able to plant my stake in a peice of land. The feeling was great, i felt as if i started a new life.
