Background information
The main reason i, Anne Mcarkin, wanted to move west, from Ireland, was to get away from my crazy mother, and who wouldent like to do it with their best friend. Another reason i wanted to immigrat is because my mom kicked me out so i had no where to go, the last reason was just to start a new life, make new impresions. Some of the reasons i wanted to go to ireland was to get the free land there, get a job because there were jobs that needed filling, and the land there seemed more apealing. -

Background information #2
I know your probably thinking if she wanted to get away from her family so bad then why didnt she move somewhere else? Why the west? The west because the people there were known to be nicer and more polite than people in ireland, the weather was better, and the scenery was better. Something that pushed me there was my free ride, a stack of cash my mom offered me to get me out of town, and encouragement from my brother. -
The start of my adventure: Ellis Island
The main reason i wanted to move west was to get away from my crazy mother, and who wouldent like to do it with their best friend. Another reason i wanted to immigrat is because my mom kicked me out so i had no where to go, the last reason was just to start a new life, meet new people and make new impresions. But on this very date is when i arived at Ellis island, the journey there took an 11 day boat ride. Ellis island seems just like an overcrowded place with lots of lines and diseased people. -
The act that affected my immigration
I got held back because of the Aliens and
Sedition Acts because a few people infront of me, there was this guy who was presumed as "dangerous" so that slowed down the line for quite a while because they had to get him checked thoroughly. -
My first job!
After staying intown for a while my best friend and i were low on money, so i walked around town looking at my new options of getting a job and none of them seemed to exciting except working in a dary factory, it may sound weird but it always sounded like something that would be exciting to me, and the mone i made was quite enought for us to live off of so now at age 16, i have a job. -
Breaking the ankle
On my way into town to get food i was walking down the roade by a forest and all the suden before i know it there is a branch sticking out on the ground and of coarse my foot happens to get stuck on it in reflexes my other foot steps forward to try to save my fall and i do step forward but my foot lands at a bad ankle and "snap" is what i hear. I waited four hours on the ground until my best friend got worried and went looking for me and found me and i got taken to a hospital for the first time. -
The hunt for land
The word around town was about the land race we were looking for all along and it was on the day of the 21 of november. The free land was not given for full free, the catch was a race that was dangerous, you need a horse which we luckly already had and you could get knocked over and trampled easily, but we both got by great and found a decent section of land, a little mushy, but otherwise it was great. -
Housing is finally done!
Since we got so used to living with barely anythign back before we got our land, when i got a job thats gave good money we had lots of extra money which was great, and just the thing we had planned for. In the long run we saved just enough to pay someone to build a house for us luckly one of our neighbors owned a buisiness that built houses so we became friends with them and got a discount! After our house was done it looked very nice and was just to our liking. -
Selling crops at the market
After all picking out the wet, mushy, muddy land came in handy. In the summer when everyones land seemed to dry out it became very hard to grow crops our land was perfect for growing crops and were the best on the market. Our crops were being sold at the market and we were raking in the money!
