    I Immigrated to America
I Alice Brennan Immigrated too America from Ireland in 1866. I Immigrated because our family farm and most of my family died from the potato famine. I also came to America because of the new money opportunities that Ireland was failing to give. When i first got to America it was very crowded, many people were speaking different languages and pushing it was very hard times, but once past the comotion it was almost like smooth sailing.
  • First Job in a Factory

    First Job in a Factory
By the time I was living in America I got a very low paying job in a chicken plucking factory. It payed so small that i could barely afford where i was living. After four years of this job i got fired, because to many people were getting employed. The managers went around and just grabbed random people and told them they were fired. Sadly, I was one of them. I then became homeless, a fate I prayed would not happen.
  • The Train

    The Train
From the money that I had gathered from my previous job i managed to get a train ticket. I also had to cut a deal with one of the conductors; the condition was that I had to work on the rail road for a week to finish paying off the ticket. So naturally, I agreed. I was going to head West for the land that they were offering too furfill my family legacy.
  • Land in the West

    Land in the West
It was 1874 and I finally got to a point where I could bid for my share of land. It was all for hectic, so many people! All that i had was a knapsack with a few dollars, a spare set of clothes, and the horse that was under me. The Homestead Act was a marvelous thing, it was very generous for America to be willing to give so much up. When the guns shot, I made my horse run, and run. Finally i came upon some land that was beautiful, and taken by no one that i could finally start my new beggining.
  • Losing Money . . . again.

    Losing Money . . . again.
I had started off my farm with confidence. I worked only myself, used a little of my land at a time. I had gained some friendships with the farmers around me, and with thery're help I built a home that was big enough for one, and could keep me warm. The few years were fantastic, my products were high quality on the fertile land, The only promblem was that so many other farmers were growing the same things as I was and therefore, i was losing money once more. It became harder to keep the farm.

    Back On My Feet
I started to panic in the lose of money and began expanding my boundries. A few of my cousins had come to america and were working as loggers and fisherman. I made a deal with them that we could combine our products for more income then just divide the money between us. Our system was working fabulously. Eventually the Brennan products were starting to get vauled in certain cities and states wanted more, such as Chicago and Alabama. Finally i could finally live the life i had been dreaming for.
