Immigrating
My name is Katarzyna Gabrysia Czerkowski,I am 20 years old, and am from Warsaw, Poland.
What I brought was four bags with clothes, silver wear, jewerly, and money. I took 1st class when I came here.
I immigrated because I wanted to own my own land and was tierd of living in Poland, Also, I didn't like Poland because it wasn't modern and I wanted to work on my own land. -
Finding a job
Finding a job was really hard for me because of my last name and the history of it. My last name was from people that are very known in Poland because we owned alot of land but we didn't use it in a good way and we weren't the most looked up to people in our place. -
Changing name, home, and job
When I finally got my plan I moved a couple of miles alway but in the middle I changed my last name from Czerkowski to Smith. Then when I finally got into a town I got a job at a workshop, it was really hard and a low paying job. I worked long hours but it was better than nothing I still had all my money saved. I lived in a home with about four other families. My pilliow was really old and nothing like it was in Poland. I wasn't treated like a princess anymore. -
Loses job and home
I lost my home and job because they found out from some other people that have moved here also from where I was living on who I was it was a good time living there I saved alot of money. I barley spend any money on extra things. So after they found out who I was they kicked me out of the house and I lost my job and didn't get my final pay. Witch was unfair to anyone, I worked the hours I should have gotten payed. Now it was really hard to get a job even then before. -
The move
Finally I had no other choice then move, so when I was moving was moving West and meant people like farmers and other immigrants. I felt as of I couldn't trust anyone to much because they also wanted land and you didn't want to give out to much information about getting the land. On the way there it was the big race to get the land. So finally when everyone got the land me and another guy that was a farmer from Ireland. -
Finally gets land
After the big race me and the guy that moved with me got the land, we got the perfect land for anytype of crops and it had water.
