My name is Maria Valastro. I was born in Italy on March 26th 1861. My parents named me Maria after my grandmother. After my parents died when I was 6, she took care of me. I love her to death. -
Got Married
Got married to Mario my boyfreind of 3 years. He is an amzing person and the wedding was beatutiful. I was so excited to finally be married. ABout a year later I got pregnant. We had our son Frankie on May 24th. -
Mario Starts the Abuse
Mario starts beating me and Frankie who is only 3
years old. I gotten hit, punched, and kicked by Mario. He even beats Frankie with a whip. I finally got the courage to leave him in 1893. Frankie wa only 4 when he last saw his father. -
Immigrated to the USA
I immigrated to the USA taking only a few belongings. Of course my 4 year old son. I also took outfits to last my son and I - 2 weeks, a picture of my parents on their wedding day, and my grandmas antique watch. I also have been saving up 100 dollars since I've been 6 so I took that with me as well. It has helped alot with the hardships we have faced. -
New Adventures
I tried new food. I also met many new people and made new friends. I finally got a job working at a factory sewing clothes. Its low wage but its good for now. I'm very happy since I moved to America. -
Frannkie gets Sick
Frankie ctahces influenza which puts him at bedrest for 2 months. I felt so bad for Frankie. He could'nt move or talk or sleep or do anything. Eventully he got better, but not before giving it to me. I went through the same experice just 10 times worse. I finally gert better 3 months later. -
Working in the Factory
I'm so happy because I'm finally starting to make some money! I've made 10 dollars so far. Frankie is going too be so excited when he hears the news. A couple weeks later though I cut myself and I have to go to the doctors office. The trip plus the cost of treansportation cost me 7 dollars. -
Was Encouraged to Move West
Met Valantina (now my best frined). She is a miner in Washington and she encouraged me to go with her to Washington. I started packing my bags. A reason I wanted to move West was the Homestead Act. It stated that anyone could own land and it also gave everyone free land. About 160 acres to be exact. I finally arrived in Washington 3 months later. -
Found Land
We all finally made it to Washington and found a gorgeous peice of land. It wasnt cheap but we all pitched in and now Valentina, Frankie and I are living here together. I could'nt be happier. Frankie is just about to start school. Valentina and I need to go Job Hunting. -
Job Hunting
Winter has rolled around and Valentina and I just found jobs. We work at a chicken plucking factory. The job is kind of nasty but we were happy we found anything at all. Although we barely have enough money to put food on the table, we are so happy and I wouldnt trade that in for anything. -
Valentina Dies
I will never forget this day. It has to be one of the saddeest days of my life. It's the day my best freind and practically sister dies. Even though I have only known her for 5 years it feels like I have known her all my life. We have been through thick and thin toghether and no one can ever replace her. -
Meet the Love of my Life
I met Jeremy who is American. He is 45 years old and is the most amzing guy I have ever met. He is nice with Frankie and works full time so he can provide for us. He is also pretty gorgeous. The other day he proposed! The wedding is in 3 months. If only Valentina were here to see this. -
Got Married Again
I finally got married! I'm extatic! I can't believe this happening right now. Frankie could'nt be happeir and neither could I! I know jeremy is going to be and amazing father! And we lived Happily Ever After!
