    China fought Great Britian for them trading in Opium, but lost horribly.
  • Sino-Japanese War.

    Sino-Japanese War.
    This was the big first step for Japan; but a giant step back for China.
  • Boxer Rebellion/ Uprising.

    Boxer Rebellion/ Uprising.
    The "boxers," or people who practiced tai kwon doe, were the angry people in China who wanted all forgein influence out. They however were squashed by the Europeans overbearing power.
  • Open Door Policy.

    The Open Door Policy was created by the US secretary at the time to have equal trading with foreigners in China. But, the foreigners really had the control.
  • Communist Party Formed.

    The Communist Party was formed in 1921, believing in the ideology of the Communist Manifesto.

    The Long March was a large group of Communists escaping from the Nationalist influenced parts of China.

    Nationalists Flee China- Mao Takes Control of Communist China.
    The Nationalists took a defining fall to the Communists in a Civil War and fled to Taipai, Taiwan. Mao takes over as the leader of the People's Republic of China.
  • The Start of the Great Leap Forward.

    The Great Leap Forward, or might as well call it the Great Leap Backwards, took giant toll on China's economy.
    The useage of collective farming brought famine to China, killing all across the country.
  • China and Soviet Union Cut Ties.

    China and Soviet Union Cut Ties.
    The end of the ties between the Soviet Union and China was mainly caused by border differences their ideas about communism.
  • Great Prolectarian Cultural Revolution

    Great Prolectarian Cultural Revolution
    Mao decided to kick in the modernization factor into high gear and started the Cultural Revolution. His goal was to create the a strong communist country.
    To do this, he had young people become apart of his revolution, who took the opportunity by storm.

    President nixon decided to visit China and Mao to better the relationship betweent the countries.
  • Mao Dies, as does the Cultural Revolution.

    Mao Dies, as does the Cultural Revolution.
    With the death of Mao, came down The Cultural Revolution, but his legacy lived on.
  • Tianamen Square Massacre.

    Tianamen Square Massacre.
    The Tinamen Square Massacre was a pro-democracy demostration, that the government cracked down heavily on.
    Since then, the government has moved towards a more socialist economy, compared to the communist ways.
