Asking and Giving Help

    Why We Should Ask

When someone depends on themselves too much, it can take them over. "Yet, when self-sufficiency is taken to the extreme, the burden of too much responsibility can cause stress, unrealistic expectations, lack of self acceptance and no acknowledgment of personal needs" (page 13). Being too independent always leads to a bad road.
  • Why We Should Ask Part 2

There is a reason why God created two people at the beginning of time, Adam and eve. One of the reasons was for them to share their feelings and learn from each other. "Learn how to language your request so you include the other person in the planning and minimize rejection" (page 14). When you ask for help, you need to be clear and confident so the helper can give useful advice.
  • My Story

An everyday example would be baking cookies. I never cook, and the other day, I made some for the first time. I was following the recipe, but it was clearly a two-man job. My sister and I were jsut arguing earlier about how i wouldn't be able to make a batch of cookies myself. So i had to prove her wrong. My sister saw that I was struggling and offered to help, not in a sarcastic way either. I ended up needing help, because there are something s you cant do yourself. They tasted awesome.
  • Why We Should Give

Many people in the modern world have become too self-centered. "And sometimes it's just a matter of thinking more about yourself than others" (page 14). When you ask, ask nicely. Make yourself look like you care. Make sure you are an active listener. What is the point on giving but not giving properly?
