    The Opium Wars
    The opium war happened because the British were giving the Chinese opium and in return the Chinese gave them their precious silk and tea. The Chinese were losing their riches so they wanted to stop people getting addicted to Opium. This is why the opium wars started. The Chinese also lost many people in the war.
  • Treaty Of Nankng

    Treaty Of Nankng
    The Treaty of Nanking was signed to stop the First Opium War. The Treaty of Nanking also meant that China had to give Hong Kong to the British for 99 years. On the 100th year the British had to return Hong Kong to China. The Treaty also stopped the Chinese getting addicted to Opium, and when the British took over they served English food and there were
    also English schools.
  • Japenese Occupation

    Japenese Occupation
    The Japanese were cruel and brutal. They had attacked after the attack on Pearl Harbour. The Chinese didn't really get alot of food to eat and they were always hungry, and most of the Chinese died of starvation. Also the Chinese kids were forced to learn Japanese for 4 hours everyday. The Chinese couldn't speak Cantonese in the streets, they were only allowed to speak at home when no Japenese were around.
  • Japenese Surrender

    Japenese Surrender
    The Japenese ruled over Hong Kong for 3 years and 8 months, when they were ruling the Chinese people were always getting punished. When the Japenese surrendered however, the British still ruled Hong Kong.
  • '97 Handover

    '97 Handover
    Hong Kong was returned back to China after 99 years under British rule. The British returned it on the 100th year because the British and the Chinese signed a treaty that stopped the Opium Wars.
  • S.A.R.S

    S.A.R.S
    Sars was a deadly disease as it was very easy to catch, schools had to be closed down and most people died of this diesease. Also, if you had Sars then you had to get an injection.
    S.A.R.S only ended in July 2003.
