    Bartolomeu Dias Discovers the End of Africa
    King John II of Portugal sent Bartolomeu Dias to find a route to India and the spice islands. During his expedition, he found the end of African, something that no one had ever done before. This lead to many people going to India and the spice islands, and people like Pedro Cabral finding faster routes.

    Christopher Columbus Finds "India" (North America) for Spain

    Columbus tried to find a way to get to India by going west. This was the first anybody tried to go west to India. Columbus landed in the Bahamas but thought it was India. This lead to trading with Native Americans, the Pilgrims, and colonization of the Americas.

    Treaty of Tordesillas is Created by The Pope
    The Pope created the Treaty of Tordesillas to make colonization and trading in the West easier and to stop the fighting of Spain and Portugal. The line was splitting Brazil in half, having the western part of the line go to Spain. The eastern part was given to Portugal. Spain tried to prove that all of the world was west of the line with Magellan's expedition. This line leads to many expeditions and more trading with Natives.

    Since Bartolomeu Dias found that Africa didn't go forever, Vasco da Gama wanted to get further and go to India. He set sail in 1497 and landed one year later in India. He brought back tons of spices and extra gold. This gave Portugal tons of money, allowing them to be a fierce World Power. This inspired other large countries to go to India for more and more money.

    Pedro Cabral was leading an expedition towards the East Indies. He found an easier way to get to the Cape of Good Hope, by going towards the West than sailing past currents. While he was sailing west he found Brazil and claimed it for Portugal. This lead to mass farming of sugar cane, creation of Creoles, and the Mita system.

    Mona Lisa is a painting made by Leonardo da Vinci. It portrays a random woman in front of a mysterious landscape, which is what da Vinci is known for. It is important because it was a great advancement in art and it had Realism and Humanism. This piece helped others want to advance in art.

    Erasmus was one of the firsts to try and share the truth of the Bible with the world. He tried to spread the truth but didn't get too far because of the Catholic Church. The Philosophy of Christ is very important because Erasmus gave Dutch speakers the chance to read the bible. He was also one of the first people to introduce Vernacular books.

Martin Luther is trying to make a change in life and let people know the truth, just like Erasmus and John Wycliffe. This leads to Lutherism, Diet of Worms, and tons of religious outbreaks.

    Magellan wanted to prove The Pope wrong about the Treaty of Tordesillas. He wanted to show the Pope that the whole world was east of the line. He set sail and went on a thousand-day voyage. He ended up dying in the Philippines by the Natives. This was the first voyage around the world.

    The Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes noticed that mostly everybody feared the Aztecs. He wanted Mexico for Spain, so he and his crew set off to Tenochtitlan to destroy the Aztec Empire. Tenochtitlan easily fell to Small Pox and the army that Spain sent. Spain destroyed Tenochtitlan and started to colonize there. This led to Northern America having no fear from the Aztecs and being scared of the Spanish.

    Francisco Pizarro Destroys Inca Empire
    Pizarro set off to the Andes and found the Incas to get gold/silver. The Incas treated the Spanish with respect and the Spanish treated the Incas with respect. Spain tried to teach Catholicism to the Incas, but they threw a bible on the ground and things went sideways. Pizarro locked Atalhualpa in a prison cell and demanded that it was filled with gold and silver. It got filled any time then Atalhualpa was killed. Spain became very rich from this and the Incas were lost without their ruler.

    Mary is the daughter of Henry VIII, she was the first in line for the crown until Henry came up with Annulments. When Edward VI died she became queen of Protestant England. This changes England from being Protestant to being strictly Catholic. She killed thousands of Protestants and left more stranded with no job and no purpose.

    Charles V had been ruling the largest kingdom in the world, making up over 1/5 of the earth. It caused tremendous stress on him and it became too much for him to handle. His incestuous deformities also played a great role in his quitting. It was hard for him to breathe and eat normally because of his jaw. Charles' quitting lead to Philip II taking the throne and causing Spain to go bankrupt and make England a world power.

    After Charles V quit his job from stress, defects, and bad health, Philip II took control. He ruled for over 40 years and was the cause of many different things in Spain. Philip was responsible for the fall of Spain because he spent most of their money on the Armada. Philip made sure that Spain was only Catholic by flushing out the protestants. He also wanted all other countries to convert to Catholicism and only Catholicism.

    After her sister Mary died, Elizabeth took crown and quickly got approval from many citizens. Elizabeth allowed England to be Tolerant again and so many important events happened under her reign. One of the most notable was that she made England the most feared power in the world and made Spain the laughing stock of Europe.

    Seven French Civil Wars of Religion

    France was divided into two groups at this time, the Catholics and the Huguenots. The Catholics started with the power and the Huguenots wanted more. Then Huguenots got power and the Catholics said it was too much for them. This went on for a while and resulted in tons of war. After Bartholomew's Day Massacre and the creation of the Edict of Nantes, the war ended and both sides got what they wanted.

    Bartholomew's Day Massacre
    King Henry of Navarre was going to marry Cathrine de Medici's daughter under the Peace of Saint Germain. A couple of days before the wedding Gaspard de Coligny gets killed by an assassin. Soon 300 protestant generals were killed. People purged Protestants for a long time. Over 4000 citizens were murdered during this time. This led to Henry taking over France and converting to Catholicism. This also leads to Henry feeling sympathy for Protestants and creating the Edict of Nantes.

    Francis Drake is Hired by England to be a Privateer

    Francis Drake had been pirating for a long while. He had stolen hundreds of thousands of gold from Spain and some other European countries. Elizabeth I saw what Drake was doing and signed him to steal for England. Drake's stealing lead to wars with other countries and England having one of the best war generals they ever had. Drake established England as a hugely feared power in the world.

    Philip II was angry at England for tricking him, stealing from him, and for being religiously tolerant. He built a huge fleet of ships to carry his soldiers from the Netherlands to England. The fleet came to England and everything was going great until fire ships made them move and they got caught in a terrible storm that destroyed most of their fleet. The Spanish Armada being destroyed led to England being a world power, Spain losing most of its money, and Spain being in a terrible situation.

    Edict of Nantes is in Action for France

    The Edict of Nantes was the end of the French Civil War. Made by newly Catholic King Henry IV, the edict gave Protestants enough rights for them to be happy and not enough rights for Catholics to be livid. This allowed Protestants to be normal humans and made Catholics somewhat respect them. The edict led to a happier, more efficient France. This was in action for 87 years until it was revoked by Louis XIV to make the whole country Catholic.
  • Dutch East India Company Starts Funding Expeditions

    The Dutch East India Company or DEIC was founded in 1602 by Johan van Oldenbarnevelt in The Netherlands. This company was one of the first companies to have stocks, shareholders, and to fund expeditions. They became the richest company ever and changed the expedition game forever. They also created the stock market.

    Louis XIV's Reign

    Louis XIV or The Sun King was a child when he became king. While he was still a kid he had Cardinal Richelieu as King for him. When Louis became king he turned France from a Religious Tolerant country to a Catholic-only country. He made nobles live with him so they couldn't rule their land and he would have more power. He was probably the greatest example of Absolutism because of the extreme measures he would take to be in charge. His saying was, "One King, One Law, One Religion."

    Charles had been fighting with Parliament for a long time. When the Civil War had ended in England, the Roundheads(Parliament Supporters) won and Charles was dethroned for Oliver Cromwell and the commonwealth. Soon Oliver wanted to kill Charles, and so Charles was killed. This was very risky for England to do because Charles believed in Devine Right, so England killed "God's Choice".

    The Glorious Revolution happened because James II was a terrible ruler in many people's eyes. William of Orange was the person many English people wanted to take over England because he was Calvinist, a good ruler, and his wife was a part of the Stuarts. He easily beat England's defense and took over. During his reign, he created the Bill of Rights which banned Catholicism, gave Parliament power, and made England a Constitutional Monarchy.
