    Although the first fire alarm was invented about 20 years earlier, the smoke detector was even better. It can detect smoke before you even know there is a fire. It helps save lives and put families at ease.

    The air conditioner helped cool down homes. This would have been extremely useful to places like New Mexico and Texas where it can get extremely hot and humid. Heat can often make people cranky, so the invention of the air conditioner can help alleviate stress among families.

It also helped moms out to get chores done around the house, if the weather was too bad outside for her kids to play.

    The first microwave oven was 6 feet tall and 750 pounds. This machine was created by accident, but helped revoluntize cooking in the household. With the invention of the microwave food could be cooked at much faster rates.

    The invention of the credit card was huge. People no longer needed the money upfront to afford the things they wanted. They were no longer limited to the amount of money they had. It gave a new sense of freedom and empowerement. It took away the stress on families to have enough money to pay their bills, they could put it on the credit card and forget about it. Unforunately, it also led to major debt for many people.

    The invention of video games started out as a small way to add entertainment to the day, but since then the video game industry has exploded. Video games can provide hours of fun, but also can be very mind numbing.

    The oral contraceptive meant that women could protect themselves from getting pregnant. I think this was one of the most important impacts on household management. The way you run your household greatly depends upon how many children you have and if you can handle all of them.

    The first cell phone was invented in 1973. This meant you no longer had to be home to make a phone call. Husbands could call their wives and tell them they were stuck in traffic and would be late to dinner; or moms could call home if they were out and check on their kids; or just communicate for any reason whatsoever.

    If you loved a movie you saw in theatres, then the invention of video tapes were for you. They allowed for movies to be watched at home and helped create family movie nights.

    The CD player allowed people to listen to music and not worrying about having to rewind their cassette tape. CD players made it easy to skip songs and download music. CDs are also much smaller than cassette tapes and take up less space and can easily be stored.

    The invention of DVDs was one step up from the classic VHS. With DVDs you ddin't have to worry about rewinding and fast forwarding the tape, or the film undwinding and getting tangled. You could also easily hit a menu button and surpass all the ads at the beginning.

    Netflix started out as allowing people rent movies and never have to leave their home, but in more recent years it became a tv application which you could watch shows directly off of. Netflix elimanted commercials and allowed people to binge watch entire TV series. This is also very helpful to moms when nothing is on TV and they need a quick entertainment for the kids.

    The invention of DVR meant you no longer had to be worried about missing your favorite TV show. Sometimes life gets busy and we don't always have time to watch TV when an episode airs, but DVR lets you record it and watch it anytime you want.

    Although, WIFi was created in 1991 it wasn't huge until 2006. WIFI helped household management by stopping a lot of fights. If you were on the intertnet it would block the phone lines and vise versa.

    The invention of the iPhone was one step further than the basic cell phone. The iPhone came with applications and internet that helped make life easier. You can create calendars on iPhones that can sync with your whole family. This helps keep the family organized.

    The Roku allows people to stream Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and many other TV sites. This helps families come together and watch their favorite shows anytime they want. It can help create family togetherness.

    Books can be very expensive and book shelves can take up a lot of space, so Barnes and Noble created the Nook. The Nook allows you to digitally download books. The library selection of books is huge and it takes up minimal space. This is especially helpful because homes don't have libraries in them now like they used to,

    The IPad is a great invention that helps household management. Instead of pulling out a cookbook or printing a recipe from a computer, you can take you IPad in the kitchen with you and watch a video on how to cook dinner. It helps save time and frustration.

    Shortly after the invention of iPhone came Siri. Siri is an application on the iPhone that you can talk to and get help with almost anything. She searches the web for you, sets your alarm, puts events on the calender, and even gives you directions. She was simplified life by us just having to ask instead of having to do the work ourselves.

    The invention of the Wii FIt made working out so much easier. Instead of leaving the house to go to the gym, or buying a bulking treadmill you could workout at home in your living room. People love the ability to workout in the comfort of their own home and small amount of small the Wii Fit takes up.

    Although only recently created, XBOX Ones have elminated the need for the remote. You can just speak to the XBOX directly to tell it to turn on and what channel you want to watch. In the typical olden days the dad was in control of the remote, or sibilings would fight over it, but now you can change the channel by just talking.
