HISTORY OF CAVITE STATE UNIVERSITY

  • The foundation

    The Thomasites first founded the state university in 1906 as an intermediate school called Indang Intermediate School, beginning with C.E. workman's first principal. The school's principal position was subsequently held by Americans Henry Wise and Joseph Coconower, the American Thomasites, as the first teachers.
  • The changes and expandation

    The school's name was changed to Indang Farming School in 1918. The school site was expanded as enrollment increased thanks to land contributions from Indang residents, including Francisco Ocampo and Don Severino de las Alas, who served as interior secretary during the Aguinaldo cabinet.

    During the administration of principal Simeon Madlangsakay, the school was renamed Indang Rural High School in 1927. In 1923, it began offering secondary courses in vocational agriculture, followed by Home Economics in 1927.

    In 1958, a congressional decision changed the name of the institution to Don Severino National Agricultural School in commemoration of Don Severino de las Alas' generosity to the village, the province of Cavite, and the nation.

    By virtue of Republic Act 3917, the institution was turned into a State College in 1964 and was renamed Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC). By virtue of Republic Act No. 3917, the agricultural school was turned into a state college in 1964. The school was given its own charter under this Act.
  • The beginning

    The College of Education, established in 1992, initially offered Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE) degrees in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics and Technology, and Physical Education, and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEE) with specializations in Mathematics, Science, Home Economics and Technology.
  • The transformation

    Dr. Lorna L. Penales became the new dean of SEd in 1996, leading to the introduction of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, followed by other programs and a renamed Science Curriculum.
  • Establishing

    In 1995, it established a special project, the Child Development Center (CDC) which admitted elementary pupils, which eventually become a laboratory school for BSE and BEE students of the Teacher education Department.
  • The convertion

    January 22, 1998, by virtue of Republic Act No.8468, DSAC was converted into Cavite State University. In 2001, Cavite College of Fisheries (CACOF) in Naic, Cavite and Cavite College of Arts and Trade (CCAT) in Rosario, Cavite, were integrated to the University by virtue of CHED Memo No. 27
  • Stablishing

    2000
    campuses in the province were established through memoranda of agreement with the LGUs. At present, CvSU has 11 campuses in the province. The main campus, approximately 70 hectares in land area and named as Don Severino delas Alas Campus, is in Indang, Cavite.
  • Integration

    2001, Cavite College of Fisheries (CACOF) in Naic, Cavite and Cavite College of Arts and Trade (CCAT) in Rosario, Cavite, were integrated to the University by virtue of CHED Memo No. 27 s.
  • S

    In 2002, Cavite College of Fisheries (CACOF) in Naic and Cavite College of Arts and Trade (CCAT) in Rosario were integrated into the Cavite State University system to become the CSU College of Fisheries and the CSU College of Arts and Trade, respectively. The Cavite City campus was launched in 2001, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed for the establishment of the Carmona campus in 2002.
  • Stablishing

    Cavite State University launched the College of Business and Entrepreneurship in Imus on August 15, 2003, with the use of a building originally proposed to be the Cavite Convention and Trade Center granted.
  • Offering of diploma

    In June 2004, CAS started to offer a two-year diploma program in Midwifery wherein graduates shall graduate in Diploma in Midwifery. Initially, Nursing instructors handled major courses and eventually hired registered Midwifery clinical instructors to supervise Midwifery clinical practicum in the different affiliated hospitals, RHU’s and lyin-in clinics in Cavite.
  • Managing

    In October 18, 2005, a separate College of Nursing with a number of full time faculty members/clinical instructors headed by its first designated dean, Prof. Lenila A. de Vera, RN, MPH and Prof. Nenita B. Panaligan, RN as Clinical Coordinator to effectively manage and accommodate the College of Nursing as per approval of the Board of Regents Resolution No. 48, s. 2005.
  • Proposing and approving

    During the start of second semester AY 2006-07, Prof. de Vera, as Dean continued to realize the vision and mission of the College. There were 908 BSN enrollees and 55 Midwifery students enrolled to the program. The masteral program, Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN), was also proposed and was approved for its offering in coordination with the Office of Graduate Studies as per BOR Resolution No. 73, s.
  • The evolution

    June 2007, the BSMT Program was officially transferred to the Con for supervision and management with Prof. Adelaida Sangalang as the designated Chairman of the Institute of Medical Technology. The Department initially has a faculty contingent of 3 and an enrollment of 5 Medical Technology students. After five years of operation, the College also prepares for accreditation of its BS Nursing program for AACCUP Preliminary survey.
