(1347) In 1347 the Black Plague spread in Europe killing almost half of the population. This was due to the lack of medical knowledge and the poor hygiene habits of the people. Many thought the Plague was punishment from God. Panic and hysteria soon spread through the population, and many were singled out and tortured. -

(1337-1453) In 1337 The Hundred Year's war was fought between England and France. Although it was called the Hundred Year's war it actually lasted 116 years. It was so long because the war was extremely expensive and both controls had to keep raising money. France won the war and England lost all their continental territory except for the Pale of Calais. -

(1450) In 1450 Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. The printing press made things easier when mass producing documents. The material of the printing press was originally wood, but around the early 1800's the materials of the printing press were changed from wood to iron. -

(1881-1914) The Panama Canal is a 51 mile canal that connects the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. From 1881-1889 the French failed at making a canal. On May 4, 1904 the US began work on the canal. The canal was finished in 1914. -

(1969) The Internet started as a project in the Cold War as a communications network that would be immune to a nuclear attack. in the internet's first 25 years, it added many features like email, HTML, and file transfers. -

(1452) In 1452 Christopher Columbus led his 3 ships (the Pinta, the Nina, and the Santa Maria) to set off to the indies for gold, pearls, and spices. But they ended up in the Americas.
