Highs and Lows

  • Birth

I was born to Kline and Candace Adams after several years of trying for a baby. They were so excited I was here, and could not wait to take me home once my oxygen levels were okay.
  • I Became a Big Sister!

My Grandma and Grandpa took care of me while my mom went into labor with my little brother. At this same time, I had the chicken pox, and was quite miserable with that and being out of my regular schedule. Once he was here, I was so excited to have a little brother that I was constantly giving him hugs and taking care of him! My parents weren't sure what I would do once he was here, but were pleased that I was so happy to have another sibling.
  • First Day of Kindergarten!

At this point in my life, my mother was going through another miscarriage. She happened to have to go to the doctor on my first day of school. I had a great day with my teacher, Mrs. Ashe, and was able to take the bus home and be greeted by our neighbor who took care of me that day. I was so excited about school, but sad that my mom had another baby that did not make it.
  • Columbine Shooting

This event scared me very much and made me realize why we have lockdown drills and I was so glad that my school was very prepared for things like this. However, I was extremely sad that people would make a decision like this and it really opened my eyes to the real world.
  • 9/11

On this morning, I woke up and was getting ready for school. As I walked past the television, I saw the terrorist attack and could not believe my eyes. I remember going to school and having a normal day, but was a little more sad than usual, and there was a lot of talk about it by others around me.
  • The Big Move

This summer was a hot one! It was our first summer to be in Arizona! We moved from Seattle, Washington, to Mesa, Arizona in the middle of July! My dad had gotten a new job as a teacher at one of the local high schools, and my brother and I started school here only a few weeks after moving in. My parents knew this would be hard on both me and my brother, but they expected us to adjust well, and to become okay with this big decision.
  • Hurricane Katrina

Hearing about this event brought reality into my life very much. I had never been in an earthquake, tornado, or any real natural disaster, and learning about this, and how people were suffering so much and were in so deep of need really opened my eyes.
  • Economy Crash

On this day I had heard that the economy had crashed. I wasn't sure what that meant. Later I realized that it had effected many people who had lost their house and were out of a job. This thankfully did not do that to my family, but many people who were close to us felt the results of the crash.
  • High School

This was a big day for me! I had been to the same school from the time I moved through junior high since it was a K-8 Charter school. Now it was time for public school and not only that, but time to be a freshman in high school! This was a hard transition, but my mom and my friends helped me through it. My father had loved his high school days and expected me to immediately love my high school experience. He was able to help me in many ways and see the good of this time in my life.
  • Graduation!

I was so pleased to be able to graduate from high school a semester early! I had doubled up on a few classes and had met all of the requirements so I could graduate! After this, it was time to practice hard to audition for Arizona State University's music school.
  • Acceptance to Arizona State University's school of music

I had done it! I had successfully passed my interview and audition to make it into the school of music! I was so excited to be able to attend Arizona State University. During this time, my mom and family were very supportive when practicing and staying positive got hard.
  • Wedding!

On this big day, I was to marry Brandon, whom I had been dating for quite some time! We were so excited and shared this day with both of our large families and many of our friends! First addition to the family for both my family and his since we are both the oldest by a ways.
