HHG Timeline - Who is Ian Schell?

  • Birth

The day Ian was born. Not a monumentous occasion, but it meant the world to my parents. This event mainly focuses on Physical development - as I had already grown significantly since conception, and continued to grow - but it also touches on the social aspect. As all babies, I was introduced to family and friends through the fun game of "Who has my child now?". Call me a social butterfly if you will.
  • Diagnosis of Epilepsy

As my brother before me, as a child i suffered from epilepsy. This was a physical hurdle for a few years. They would occur often, and i visited the hospital many times for them. There was also the worry that I would suffer some form of neurological damage, as my brother had - but overcame. Thankfully, through experimentation we both became dormant. With no return.
  • First Guitar

When I was about 7-8, I showed great interest in music, and I was all about the guitar solo. That year for christmas, I received by first guitar. This was the start of a large change in both physical, emotional, and social development. I began to stretch my muscles, and tore my fingers to shreds (in the name of love). I also started to become emotionally connected to what I was playing, and could feel notes, and atmospheres. I also began to play to whomever I could, craving praise.
  • First concert

    First concert
This was a day I will never forget. I attended my first concert, which sparked an ember in me. Socially, I began to mimick clothing trends seen in the venue environment, and had to know every lyric. This was also a physical step for me, as I was just a young boy in a crowd of sweaty 30 year old dudes, and didnt care. I was there for the music.
  • First Job

    First Job
As a physical, and social milestone, I chose to share my first job - and all its sloppy glory - which was dish pit in East Side Mario's. This truely tested my physical being (as I was 15, and working a fast paced job) as well as testing how well I interacted with Co-workers. Which was well. It was hard, but I learned a lot, and moved forward a better person.
  • Vacation - England and Scotland

    Vacation - England and Scotland
This was the second time that I had been to England, but not within my span of memory - if you know what i mean. I was like, 6. Anyways, with just my parents (my brother stayed home) we went and stayed with family all over England including Nottingham, London, Cambridge, and even Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland. This trip can be classified and all four pies, as I experienced a lot, and walked until my shoe litterally broke.
  • First Gig

Possibly the most important emotional, social, intellectual, and physical stepping stone in my life. This was the first show I played - actual show that is, no school pagent stuff - despite my nerves, I took the stage. (Physical). I interacted with the crowd, my band, and my instrument (Social), and the whole "Im so proud of you, kiddo" thing.(Emotional)
  • First guitar (Purchased)

    First guitar (Purchased)
Out of pure chance, I stubbled across this thing, and I just had to buy it. That right there is my Godin LG P90, with dual seymour duncan pickups. This guitar signifies a social change, a its purchase lead to my role in my current band. Its a jazz guitar, but it shreds the metal. Its also a physical change, as my playing became much more complex with it.
  • Removal of Wisdom Teeth

    Removal of Wisdom Teeth
This is more of a physical thing, as I had to have all four impacted molars removed - which sucked, let me tell you - and had to let my body rest and heal. However, I beleive that wisdom teeth are a rite of passage, that I went through. In that sense, this was a social event too.
  • Co-op placement (Summer)

    Co-op placement (Summer)
Through a 2 credit summer program with the school, I was placed to work for a month with the MultiCultural Cinema Club (MCC), and began to make videos, as well as handle organization and rentals. This was a social, and physical step as I got my first introduction into the world of film making, and had to perform on a professional level. I met amazing people, and received a lot of oppertunities.
  • Theatre People, Synchronicity, and M is for Movie

Theatre People, Synchronicity, and M is for Movie
Following my work at the MCC I started to do audio and production assistance on multiple shoots. For Theatre People (A locally shot sitcom/comedy) I even received an acting role. This was emotional for me in a sense, just the fact that I was even asked to come work on these felt like an honour. Synchronicity (A scifi/drama) was a full feature film, and M is for Movie was a 3 minute horror for the ABC's of Death competition. The shoots were long, and we faced the elements, but it was worth it.
