The region under British control was commonly called India and included areas directly administered by the United Kingdom, that were called British India, and those ruled by rulers, but under British paramountcy, and called the princely states. If this didn't happen, Britain never would've had as much control. Some other country could take it.

The “Scramble for Africa” was the invasion and of African territory by European powers during the period of New Imperialism, between 1881 and 1914. In 1870, 10 percent of Africa was under European control; by 1914 it was 90 percent of the continent. If this didn't happen, some other Country could've taken control of this land. In turn, it would make them more powerful and they'd be more powerful today.
