The cold war started because Russia wanted to spread the word of communism throughout the globe and to stop the Russians the United States and Britain helped each other to defeat the Russians. If the Russians won communism would could be controlling majority of the world.

The Gulf war started because Hussein was defying the United Nations who then became a threat. If Hussein won against the United Nations the relationship between nations could go bad and try to take each other over.
