its christmas
Its christmas today and ive decided to start writing down my thoughts in this blank page book mother gave me for christmas.So ill start off by intruding myself my name is Eimear, i am 10 years old and i have one younger sister and my mother is pregnant with a third child. I live on a farm and we grow potatos, a lot of the people around these parts do. -

Brothers birthday
So i have decided to only use this journal on special or if i need to write down my feelings and today is a very exciting day. My little brother Aedan, thats what we named him. Had his fifth birthday today. Although he is small for his age but very bright. I love him very much. -
My birthday
Today was is my birthday and im 10 years old now. My younger sister, Roisin shes 6 gave me a bracelet she made shes so sweet. Today our neighbors came over and we had a feast with a bonefire, it was great fun, with all the dancing and singing.I wish every day was like today. -
The potatos
Today something terriable happened while digging out the potatos, the first ones were great and healthy then they started to come out with diesease, they were black and rotting. What our we going to do for food how are we going to pay for rent? Im so worried. just by looking at father i can tell that hes worried too. -
the blight
The Blight thats what there calling the diease to the patatos and its all over ireland. People are dying we are barlely suviving ourselves. Were always hungry and my baby brother Aedan is always crying. We need a miracle soon. -
Starving
Im so hungry. Everywhere around us people are all dying from starvation or sickness from eating the rotin patatoes i dont know how were going to pay for rent for our house with no money people our being kicktd out their houses because they didnt pay their rent; will that happen to us? -
A job
I found a job as a bridget (a maid). Even though im young they told me they could use me to take care of the children, make the beds and wash clothes. Ill be getting paid a few pences but thats better then nothing. -
kicked out
Athough with my pay and fathers we still couldnt pay rent and just got kicked out of our house. No food no shealter how will we survive. People are dying all around us its a regular accurance. Im always tired and dont think that -
Hope
its cropping season for the patatoes again; one year since the blight started. since we got kicked out weve been staying at a church. we are going outside to wawatch the farmers pick the new patatoes praying hat they will be without blight. So that ireland has a chance to suvive this horriable time. -
Nothing left here
The patatoes were all with disease theyre is no more hope and nno reason to stay in ireland roison is getting very sick we fear for her life. Father talks of us leaving ireland to go to america, i love ireland but i cant stand living here any longer. -
My sister
My Roisin oh my Roisin. She died today and im so sad we are all greving greatly father says that we are leaving Ireland as soon as we have the money too. I hope its soon. -
Goodbye
We are leaving Ireland. Forever. Even though i knew it would happen it still seems so weird. Ireland is what i know. Ireland is a part of me we are leaving tomorrow and never coming back i dont know when we will reach America, but i hope it wont take to long ive never been on a boat i hope i dont get sick. Goodbye Ireland. -
The Arrival
After such a long journey we have finally arrived here in America.
It was a very tiring journey and im glad its over it took us about 37 days to arrive. Mother got very sick on the way but father says its just sea sickness. Im not sure whats going to happen now but i hope we can have a fresh new start in America and forget about everything thatv happened back in Ireland. -
Rough times
Times are rough right now father got a job and mother sews clothes and sells them, but its still very hard for us with rent being expensive. We need manage to get a house in the country. with two big rooms so were very greatful for that.Its just some of the people here are cruel and rude treating us like dirt, in Ireland people were always so kind but Mothers says tio ignore them cause things will get better i hope shes right. -
Moving Again
Were moving again its been a year since we moved to America and its been hard Father says that hes been offered 20 acres of land and a small cottage for not a big amount only thing is that its in Canada. Father says that we are going to stay in America for a bit longer then were going to move -
New place
We are finally here in canada. It took us much longer then a thought it would take us to get here. So im very glad were here our house is very lovely, and father says im going to start school soon. Im so excited Father says that im going to have to work very had to catch up to the kids my age but Father thinks i can do it. -
The Best birthday
Today i turned 15. I had started school more then a year ago but now im going to stop going because i already know how to read and write also im now older then most kids at my school and Mother needs me to help tend to the house with her. Today i got a beautiful dress that mother has made me for church and im awfully fond of it; wait till rebecca and getrude see it. Those are my best friends by the way there the best. Today was the best birthday ever. -
The boy
I met this wonderful boy a few weeks ago his name is Robert. He has brown hair and lovely green eyes. He is so sweet. I met him in the market while shopping for food i bumped into him and dropped my food then he picked it up and carried it home for me. We have been hanging out almost every day since i think i might love him. I hope he feels the same way. -
My first kiss
Robert kissed me today and now i cant stop smiling, Mother thinks that ive gone mad, sometimes i wonder if Mother was ever really my age. I told Rebecca and getrude about it and boy did they go crazy now they cant wait to get there first kiss. Robert is the most handsome boy ive ever met and he is such a gentelman. I cant wait to see him again how will i be able to sleep toinight. -
Families
I introduced robert to my family today and they are all rather fond of him espically Aedan whos now 6. Roberts really good with kids well probably because he has 3 younger siblings of his own my father approves of my liking to robert mainly because of how responsible he is. im glad that everythings well. -
the forbidin baby
I knew that everything good happening this year was to good to be true finally something bad happened. My friend Getrude is pregnent, with a baby but shes not married i dont know whats she will do she hasnt told her folks yet shes too scared. Im scared just knowing about it oh whast will she do. -
Runaway
Gertrude was about a month pregnant when she got scared that someone would notice her stomach growing, So she decided to runaway with her baby father. I dont know how there going to survive with no shelter and a little money but i hope they do. -
A Letter
I got a letter from Getrude today and she told me that shes well with a lovely daughter who she named charlotte.She says that shes getting married to the babies father who im informed name is jacob. Shes also inviting me to her wedding, ihope mother and father let me go cause she is my very good friend.oh well even if i cant go im just glad that shes doing well. -
Gertrudes wedding
Mother and Father let me go to Getrudes wedding yesterday but i HAD to bring Robert with me, (which frankly i did not mind). It was lovely i could tell by just looking at he that she was truely happy. I finally met Jacob and he is vey kind. I also me baby Charlotte and she is just too cute. Getrude says that im always welcome to visit them.At the wedding i caught Robert looking at me and when our eyes met he told me that very soon he'd like to have a wedding too. And i said i would love that too -
The Proposal
Today Robert proposed to me! Im so happy right now i think i
might burst! Mother is happy for me when i told Father he said
i was too young then i told him was 19 and he just sighed. I
think he forget that im not a little girl anymore. Im so excited to get married i love Robert so much and im so thankful that i have him in my life.
guess who else has someone special in there life my younger brother Aedan fancies a girl and i think she fancies him back. -
the Wedding
Today is my wedding. Im so happy i cant even begin to express my emotions. After the wedding Edward and i will head off to our huse that we have already purcushed. My mother shall come with us and help us get our house together. I cant believe so much good has happened since he sad death of my younger sister and since we left Ireland. One thing for sure is i will never take anything for granted. -
Im pregnant
Im pregnant!!!! I cant believe it. Im going to be a mother Robert is so excited i want a little girl and Robert wants a boy. But no matter what we get we will love them just as much. Ive already told mother and father and they are very excited to be grandparents. I hope that my baby will be healthy and that there will be no troubles. -
The best present ever
My TWINS were bon today how amazing is that! Two healthy babies I couldnt ask for better christmas present. You know what the best part is, I gave birth to a baby girl and a baby boy, so both my husband and i got what we wanted. I love them both so dearly and they are not even a day old even though i havent slept a wink in 18 hours im so full of energy. Robert and i decided to name them after there grandparents; Margret and Charles -
The twins
Its the twins 1st birthady and i couldnt be happier. They are so sweet and very quiet. But even so they and still a handfull. Usually roberts at work so i have to take care of both babies all by myself! Margret doesnt fuss too much but Charles is quite silly, always making a mess. They strted growing there teeth so there getting a little cranky. Hope it doesnt get to bad. -
Another marriage
My other best friend Rebbeca gott married today, im so very happy for her. Almost everyone i knew was there and its was a very happy day. Rebeccas spouses name is christopher. He is very kind and i know he will treat her with respect. Now its just Aedan that needs to be wed. -
first love
So my last journal entry i wrote about how its only Aedan that needs to get married well my words are becoming partly true. You see Aedan met a friend he used to like years ago and she liked him and now they have been talking a lot and Aedan told me he wants to propose to her! Im SO excited for him. She is a very sweet girl and has a kind soul. -
Aedans marriage
So Aedan did it, he proposed to Elizabeth. And she said yes! So yesterday was the wedding. It was great fun i think it was the liveliest wedding I have ever been to. There was lots of dancing and singing. It was short but sweet. Tomorrow they are going to move into there new house and ill be going over to help them move. I made some pie as a gift for them i hope they like apple pie. -
Mother
I havent wrote in this journal for a while and im sorry but its been hard with the twins but something tragic has happened and i need tto exspess my feelings my mothers has died. I feel like a part of me has died as well i miss her so so dearly i loved her so very much everyone did shes the best mother ever and i couldnt ask for a better one. -
Aedans child
Aedans wife had a child today its a boy but they havent named him yet. Now Charles and Margret will have a friend to play with; well when Aedans son grows a bit. Aedan seatled into his housea while ago its a very nice house witha good amount of property. Aedans son is very loud and likes to cry but still hes quite cute. I know that Aedan and Elizabeth will be very good parents. -
another child
Im pregnant with another baby right now and both Robert and I are extatic. So are the twins they cant wait for the new baby there so loving the idea of them both becoming a "big brother and big sister". we might have to move though but i think we can manege with the space that we have. If we do end up having the blessing of having another child then we would have to move. -
birth of a baby
I had yet another baby yesterday.It was a beutiful baby girl, we decided to name her charlotte. She is so sweet she causes me no stress and sleeps well for a new born baby. She was big for a baby but its better then being to small for her age. The kids and rober are all very happy that we have the baby. -
1 year
Its been one year since charlotte was born and she is still sweet and queit. Today everyone came over for charlottes birthday. Gertrude and Rebbeca and there families even came. It was the best day in many years. I am so greatful for everthing and everyone in my life. My life has been greatly changed since i left Ireland Years ago.
