Genius Hour Project

  • Inspired to Meditate

Today I felt inspired by a fellow yoga teacher to add meditation to my yoga practice! I thought it would be an interesting idea to make meditation the focus of my Genius Hour Project.
  • First Morning Meditation

Today I started my genius hour project with an early morning 5 minute mediation. The hardest part was just getting out of bed! I am sure it will get easier with time.
  • One Week Complete!

I have successfully completed one week of morning meditation! Early mornings are not easy, and taught me the importance of time management and getting prepared the night before. I look forward to seeing what the second week of meditation has to teach me.
  • First Mantra Meditation

This morning I did my first mantra meditation. It was different, I think I am going to try it a few more times before I make decisions and judge it. The mantra I chose was; Breathe in, I send myself love. Breathing out, I send love to someone else who needs it.
  • Missed a Morning Meditation!

So this morning was crazy to say the least. Everyone knows what it is like when your phone dies in the night and your alarm does not do off in the morning. Things happen, and its how we respond to the things that determine who we are as a person. This morning I did not have time for morning meditation, but not to worry, there is always time before bed!
  • Two Weeks Complete!

Well I finished week 2 and learned about the importance of letting go of perfection. Sometimes things do not go as planned and changes need to be made. It is important to embrace change and learn to go with the flow of things even if that means missing a morning meditation and completing it in the evening instead.
  • First Food Meditation

This was the first time I focused my meditation on the aspects of a food, in this case my morning coffee.
  • Downloaded "Headspace" App

Today I downloaded an awesome app called Headspace. It contains numerous guided meditations and mindfulness exercises that I can access on my phone. I love having the option to meditate or do a short exercise anytime I have a spare moment.
  • Three Weeks Complete!

This week I experimented with different types and styles of meditation. I am really glad I took the time to learn about different ways to meditate and incorporate into my day. One of my favourite meditations this week was the food meditation I did with chocolate!
  • Singing Bowl Meditation

So recently I got myself a singing bowl and this morning I did my first meditation with it! If you have never heard a singing bowl I highly recommend taking the time to google it, their song is beautiful and unique to each bowl.
  • Mediation at a Yoga Studio

Today I went to my first hour long guided meditation class at a yoga studio. At first I was worried I would fall asleep but I really loved having the words of guidance to keep my thoughts focused on my breath and body. After class the instructor provided us with paper to journal about thought and emotions that arouse in class, which was perfect for my genius hour blog! I certainly plan to take more guided meditation classes in the future!
  • Four Weeks Complete!

Today marks the completion of four weeks of meditation. Lots of early morning, some evenings, sometimes with other people. During the last few days of my genius hour project I hope to explore the history of meditation and how it originated.
  • Last Meditation for Genius Hour

This morning I completed my last meditation for my Genius Hour Project. It has been 5 weeks and I would say there have been numerous changes that I have experienced with regards to how I feel before/during/after meditation. I will also say that this will not be my last meditation, just my last one for this project. I plan to continue my meditation practice especially before teaching.
