BIRTH
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in the coastal city of Porbandar, India. -
GETS MARRIED
He married Kastubai Nakanj at the age of 13, to which he had been engaged since he was 6 years old without him knowing. -
STUDY
His family sent him to study at a university in London, called Inner Temple. In which he began to frequent the Theosophists, who introduced him to the reading of the first Indian classic, the Bhagavad Gita, which he would consider the book for the knowledge of the truth. -
Gandhi embarked for South Africa.
In South Africa there was a Hindu colony made up mostly of workers, the English disparagingly called Sami. They lacked all rights and were racially discriminated against. When finishing his work, Gandhi was about to return to India when he learned of the existence of a bill to remove the right to vote for Hindus. So he decided to postpone his departure for a month so that he could fix that misunderstanding, and the month turned into twenty-two years. -
FOUNDED THE PERIÓDICO
While in South Africa he founded the newspaper, called "The Indian Opinion" and created the Natal Indian Congress. -
RETURNED TO INDIA
He returned to India and joined the Indian national movement. -
ARRESTED
Gandhi was arrested while going to the town of Dheli, days later on April 13 the British Indian Army ordered the killing of unarmed Sikh, Hindu and Muslim men, women and children, who were gathered in the garden of Jallianwala for the festival of Vaisakhi (New Year). -
CONDEMNED
Gandhi was arrested in March and sentenced to serve 6 years in prison for a campaign of civil disobedience. -
RELEASE FROM PRISON
Upon leaving prison, Gandhi realized that the political landscape had changed as the Indian movement had split in two. -
THE MARCH OF SALT
The salt march began on March 12, due to the salt monopoly, which affected the poor. Gandhi left Sabartami (79 years old) for Dandi. On the day of the Amritsar massacre, Gandhi reached the seashore and took a handful of salt with which he symbolically broke the monopoly. -
ACHIEVE INDEPENDENCE
Gandhi took 8 years to become independent, since on August 9, 1942 he was arrested. In jail he found out that his wife had died. In 1944 he left and on August 15, 1947 Gandi achieved independence. -
GANDHI WAS KILLED
On January 30 Gandhi was assassinated at the age of 78 by a fanatic in New Delhi, India.
