Marbles during this time era were very popular. The marbles were hand made and rolled by hand with varieties of clay colors like dark green, white and yellow. Afterwards they were painted and traces of the paint remained. They also came in large varieties. These marbles could be used for games, religious reasons or even for decoration purposes. -
Wooden Doll Accessories
In this era wooden doll accessories were introduced and were very popular. These toys were often hand-crafted by parents or relatives for young children. Usually made were doll beds, doll houses or even crutches for "injured" dolls. The wood was made of walnut and were miniature beds. The beds would be made perfectly for any child's doll. -
Wooden Puzzles
In this era wooden puzzles were by far the most popular and this is because there educational and fun. The puzzle was cut and made by hand into numerous pieces. The people who made the toys used resources that were inexpensive and available which was most commonly wood. Wooden puzzles come in many forms like the box , sled or even a rocking chair. Children would be occupied for hours assembling and disassembling the many pieces. -
Doll Mini Tea Sets
Doll mini tea sets were great toys during this era. Small children spent many hours enjoying there dolls but not only what they wore. You can't ever forgot tea time! These tea sets were all hand made and usually imported from England. Dishes were included as well and made from porcelain. Most of the sets copied fashionable patterns and consists of flowers. -
Card Games
In the era of 1880 card games were played a lot. With a pack of cards you can do anything and play many many games. Back then in this era cinch, jubilee and pedro were some of the most well known card games. What was so great about these were you can play with a numerous amount of people. Card games are not just fun, but you need to use your mind to win these games! -
Cup and Ball Toy
In the early 1900's the cup and ball toy was introduced and became a big hit. The toy consists of a cup attached to a stick and a string is attached with a ball. Then you're ready, motion your arm to try to get the ball into the cup. You can play with friends to see who get's the most in. Very entertaining! This toy is usually made of wood, but can be very easily made with household items like a tin can for the cup and a wooden spoon for the stick. Then attach string and a small ball. Ready!
