French Revolution

  • Louis XIV calls the estates general

    Before this Louis XIV had put France in debt. He had spent money on war and he had built Versailles. He would tax the third estate because of the debt. Louis XIV called the Estates General for a vote. The third estate was always ruled out by the other estates, so the third estate broke off and created the national assembly
  • Storming of the Bastille

    The Parisians had stormed the Bastille. They raided it because there was rumor of weapons being held there. There were also king's men there and the Parisians thought they had something to guard or were ready for war. The Bastille was also a prison in which the king had sent people who had went against him.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    The Declaration of Right and Man had given people basic freedoms that everyone should've had. The people had used the Enlightenment's Ideals to create the Declaration.
  • New Constitution

    The new constitution was made after the third estate broke off. The new constitution had a constitutional monarchy and a new legislative assembly
  • Reign of Terror

    on January 17,1793 Louis was convicted of treason and beheaded. The committee of public safety created by George Danton. The Reign of terror period from July 1793 to July 1794. Mass executions and the death of robespierre.
  • Napoleon's conquest

    While the French revolution was going on Napoleon had protected it. Now that he has become the dictator he began a takeover of the countries united against France. He had taken most of Europe. He had lost twice to Great Britain and never took Portugal
  • Napoleon overthrows Directory

    Napoleon had launched coup d'eat against the new directory. The directory had promoted middle class and had a financial crisis.
  • Napoleon invades Russia

    When Napoleon tried to invade Russia he had under estimated the Russian Winter. He went in with 400,000 troops and left with 10,000 because the winter and war was too much to handle. This had weakened his army as he returned to France. The other countries knew and began their attack.
  • Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo

    After Napoleon's invasion of Russia, his army was weak and had little manpower. The countries surrounding France recognize this and attack. Napoleon is defeated at Waterloo on the battle of Leipzig. After this defeat Napoleon is banished to Elba.
  • The Congress of Vienna

    The Congress of Vienna was a series of international meetings to establish a balance of power. They had also established the Concert of Europe. This was an international alliance to maintain balance of power.
