  • May 5, 1789 Meeting with Estates General

    The heads of each estate of France met to discuss issues in their lives. Because nothing was accomplished, the 3rd Estate left the government to make their own government.

    It gave the revolutionaries confidence in the power of the people over the king. It moved the king from Versailles to Paris.

    Louis XVI was executed for treason because he failed to help the 3rd estate.

    Made the authority of men over their families stronger, deprived women of any individual rights, and reduced the rights of illegitimate children.
  • Napoleon Crowns himself emperor

    By crowning himself, Napoleon symbolically showed that he would not be controlled by Rome or submit to any power other than himself.

  • Napoleon and his men march on Russia

    Napoleon wanted to compel Tsar Alexander I of Russia to cease trading with British merchants through proxies in an effort to pressure the United Kingdom to want peace.
  • Napoleon is exiled to Elba

    Napoleon's broken forces gave up and Napoleon offered to step down in favor of his son. When this offer was rejected, he abdicated and was sent to Elba.

    Died as a prisoner of the British on the island of Saint Helena.
