    Napoleon invades Spain

    Forces sent to Spain were without enough supplies. Devoted to their king, the Spaniards kept invaders out. Soon, French forces would soon be getting hit by guerrilla warfare that kept French tied down when Napoleon needed them.

    In 1812 about 600,000 soldiers and 50,000 horses, Napoleon invaded Russia. To avoid battles with Napoleon the Russians retreated eastward, burning crops and villages as they went. This scorched-earth policy left the French hungry and cold as winter came.
