Assembly of the Three Estates
Facing crippling debt, the monarch of France, King Louis XVI assembles the Three Estates. Louis wishes to raise the taxes on the citizens of France, but law states that he can only do so with the approval of the Three Estates. However, what Louis did not predict was that the First Estate and the Second Estate would vote to only raise taxes on the Third Estate. This angers members of the Third Estate, who represent over 95 percent of the French population. -
Tennis Court Oath
The Third Estate created the National Assembly because they were unable contribute any political decision of the meeting from the Estate General. The third estate all met at a tennis court and all took a oath to not disband until the king can notice them and can change the rules to make it more fair for them. The goal they had in mind was to have taxes split it evenly to all the states. -
The storming of the Bastille
In the morning of Paris the Third Estate gather in front of the entrance of Bastille and there was two people that represented the crowd who was invited to discuss a agreement. The negotiations took long which cause the crowd of people to become very aggressive. The guards yell to the crowd to withdraw and the people thought they said to come in. The soldiers shot at the crowd for trying to come inside which soon cause a mob. The mob storm in and took weapons and free some political prisoners. -
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was a document that gave civil right to a large amount of the France’s people. In order to be granted civil rights you have to be at least 25 years old pay taxes and can’t be a servant. During this time mainly men who own property had civil right. Woman and young people were not included this cause woman to question why they can’t be granted civil rights. Woman started a petition and presented to the National assembly which didn’t change anything. -
The March on Versailles
In the morning of Paris women were very outrage about marketplace charging bread price very high because their was barely any bread. Women started to hear rumors going around that the royalist had a party and they took most of the bread. This cause a angry mob of woman to march toward the Palace of Versailles. The mob surrounded the palace and soon the queen came out to apologize to the crowd. The result of this was the royals lost their power and now were trap in the palace. -
Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette attempt to escape
Louis XVI and his family tempted to escape from the capital but
He was caught during that night when someone recognized him. He was recognized by Jean Baptiste who was a postmaster. They arrested him and put him on trial for alleged treason and intended defection towards the enemy side. The result of the trail was him being sentenced to be headed in front of public and nine months later his wife was beheaded for treason. -

The Reign of Terror
The creation of the committee of Public safety which was use to govern France. They made monarchy abolished and many people were being executed for not supporting the revolution. They executed people by listening to rumors or people calling out others for not supporting the revolution. During this time a group of politicians took over the Convention and fix the prices of bread and adopted the first republic constitution of France. -
Napoleon overthrow of Five Man Directory
The Five Man Directory was use to governed France that replace the committee of public safety. When Napoleon came back after the war he noticed how unstable the Directory is doing. The reason why the Directory was unstable is because they kept on going to war which made France Financial problems even worse. He was approached by two men and they wanted to work to together to share the power. Napoleon betrayed them and use his influence to overthrow the Five Man Directory. -
Napoleon was crowned as Emperor
Napoleon crowned himself and his wife because it was a symbolic that represent that he is not controlled by anyone. Napoleon was titled indicated a constitution monarchy instead of king of France because he wanted the French people to know that they are equal and that he dose not control them. Another reason why he change the titled term was because he wanted to show the people to show a new political system. -
The Confederation of the Rhine
The Confederation was an alliance between French Empire and other states about offering resources and exchange French would provide protection from Germany. 35 state that join the confederation but the other bigger states didn’t want to join because they wanted to keep their resources and gain more power. This benefit France and Napoleon use the resources to support the French army that was in Germany. Years later Confederation of Rhine failed and many member of it change to sides to Germany. -

The Continental System
The Continental System is Napoleon making other countries to stop trading with Great Britain. Napoleon knew that he can’t defeat Great Britain because they had strong Royal Navy so he decided to hurt the economy. Napoleon was mainly focusing on the Portugal because they kept on trading with Great Britain. The Continental System failed it did hurt Great Britain economy a little in addition France lost lot of money because people were smuggling so they didn’t have to pay taxes to France. -
Mutiny of Aranjuez
The Spain people had an uprising against the Charles IV they wanted his son or Ferdinand VII to be the new King. Napoleon noticed the issue that was going on in Spain so he decided to trick them into gaining control of Spain. Napoleon send out a letter to Charles and Ferdinand inviting them to Bayonne. When they arrived he trap them in a room and force the king to renounce the throne. Napoleon gain Spain and made the king his bother to control Spain for him. -
Napoleon’s marriage to Marie Louise
Napoleon wanted to have a son to be the next heir to the throne but he was unable to produce a son with his wife. Napoleon decided to have a divorce and marry someone else to have a son. He marry Marie Louise which became a symbol of alliance between France and Austria. They were married in a religious ceremony and he was not dressed for the occasion because he didn’t care too much about it. Napoleon made jokes about “marrying a womb” but later their marriage became a little bit more better. -

The French invasion of Russia
Napoleon and his military went to invade Russia with the help from Polish nationalist and patriots and Napoleon goal was to take over Russia and liberating Portland from Russia. Napoleon ended up being unsuccessful with the invasion because of the cold weather had a big effect his military. When they were half way into Russia they started having shortage of food because of Russian soldiers burn down the crops from where they were staying and their horse had hyperthermia, they later retreated. -
The Battle of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo was the final battle of the French Revolution and last battle Napoleon Boneparte ever fought in. The Battle was fought in present day Belgium. Napoleon’s French forces were outnumbered by the combined armies of the English and the Prussians, led by British officer the Duke of Wellington. When Napoleon was defeated, the French throne was once again given to King Louis XVIII. Napoleon was exiled to an island named Saint Helena where he passed away few year later.
