    Was the first meeting of the Estates General since 1614. All three of the estates were represented.
  • Tennis Coart Oath

    Was signed by 576 of the 577 of the members from the third estate. This group was led by Honoré Gabriel Riqueti.
  • Storming of the Great Bastille

    The third estate stormed the Hôtel des Invalides to gather weapons to storm the bastille. 98 attackers and 1 defender died in the attack.
  • Declaration of the rights of man

    Was a document of the French Revoution defining the individual and collecive rights of the estates. It was the first step toward writing a constittuion for France
  • Women's March to Versialles

    This was also known as the October March. It began when women were rioting about the high price of bread. Their demonstrations quickly became what revolutionaries who were seeking liberal political reforms.
  • Louis' and Marie's flight to Varennes

    The king's attempted flight provoked the charges of treason. Louis' indecision of how to deal with the revolution is one of the reason they were moved from versailles to Tulieries.

    This was the second written constitution of France. In the summer of 1789 the French National Assembly began the process of drafting a constitution.

    Was a proclamation issued by Charles William Ferdinand, It issued that if the Royal family were harmed the French civilians would be harmed.

    Comprised the constitutional and legislative assembly. It was elected to assemble a new constitution after the overthrow of the monarchy.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte takes over

    Members of the directory conspired with Napoleon to take over the French government. Napoleon quickley asserted his superior intelligence with others.

    Was the French civil code established by Napoleon. Was a major step in replacing the previous patchwork of feudal laws.
  • Naploleon becomes Emperor

    After a streak of victories he secured France as one of the powers in Europe. e crowned himself emperor and Joséphine Empress.
  • Battle of Trafalgar

    Was fought between the British and the French and Spanish navy. Nelson was mortally wounded in the battle becoming one of Britan's greatest war heroes.

    This was the foriegn policy of France. Napoleons plan was to defeat the Britans and destroy it's ability to trade.
  • Peninsular war

    This war was between France and Spain against the United Kingdom and Portugal. They were fighting for control of the Iberian Peninsula.
  • Invasion of Russia

    This caused the destruction of the French army. In the battle of Borodino the two sides met and there were over 250,000 troops involved and over 70,000 deaths.
  • Exile to Elba

    Napoleon was exiled to Elba after his forced abdication. He was allowed to keep a personal guard of 600 men. This Island was patrolled by the British navy.
  • Exile to St. Helena

    The British government selected St. Helena as the detention spot of Napoleon. He lodged at Longwood when he was there before he died in 1821.
  • Battle of Waterloo

    This batlle was between the French army and the seventh colation. The defeat at Waterloo put an end to Napoleons rule as emeror and marked the end of his hundred days return from exile.
