Madison declared war against Britain because they were tired of them seizing American ships and they wanted to end all British influence in North America. The Americans were severely unprepared with less than 7,000 people in their army.

War hawks were Southern and Western Republicans who rooted for war. They were angry about the grievances America faced. One of the grievances was the economic state America was in after the Napolean wars. They also wanted to expand into Canada.

This was a peace treaty that ended the War of 1812. American and British delegates met in Belgium. The British agreed to take their people out of the Northwest territory. This did not resolve all of their issues, but it stopped the war.
