    Impressment of soldiers
    This event happened even after the neutrality proclamation had been announced. The British navy did not take heed to Washington's wish to be neutral, and instead started capturing American sailors and their ships; holding them hostage. However, they also forced these sailors to become soldiers and fight on the front line along side the British.

    France and Britain were at war and proceeded to try and drag the United States into their conflict. There had been previous warnings that we wanted nothing to do with their fight. They did not take heed to our warnings, therefore we issued the proclamation of neutrality to remain neutral and out of the way.

    The Jay Treaty was a Treaty that was made to help settle tensions and unresolved issues between Great Britain and the United States. Tensions were starting to rise with Between Britain and France but this tension soon spread to the United States, therefore this Treaty was made to hopefully help the United States remain "neutral".

    Washington's Farewell Address was his speech to the nation, however it wasn't publicly released. In his address he warned the nation to be careful of permanent alliances, and what foreign countries we make these alliances with as they could once again shake the nation.

    Tecumseh and his brother "The Prophet" were leaders who rounded up large groups of Native Americans to advance against the white settlement/Americans. Tecumseh's brother got his name "The Prophet" from correctly predicting a Solar Eclipse, which caused the swarm of Native Americans to trust and side with him and his brother.

    The Embargo Act of 1807 was an Act set in place to shut off all exports and imports from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the one to initiate this act since Britain nor France took heed to our wish to be neutral and instead progressed and confiscated our sailors and our ships.

    Chesapeake-Leopard affair
    The Chesapeake-Leopard affair was when the British ship the HMS Leopard confronted and opened fire on the American ship the USS Chesapeake off the coast of Virginia. The British were demanding to search the USS for British soldiers but the Americans refused, therefore the British opened fire on the U.S. ships.

    The War Haws was a war between Great Britain and America. However, the War Hawks were the main contributors to this war as they encouraged James Madison to declare war in the first place. There also was already many tensions like British invading out maritime policies, left over hostility from the Revolutionary War, and the war going on with Napoleon.

    The War of 1812 was the result of Madison finally agreeing to go to war with Britain (with the persuasion of the War Hawks of course). The War Hawks also thought that Great Britain were siding with the Native Americans in their resistance which angered Madison even more. Madison eventually agreed with the War Hawks and declared war against Britain even though some of the upper Congressmen did not agree. British troops then marched ti Washington D.C. and burned the White House and Capital.
  • Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention was assembled to discuss the opposing ideas against James Madison and his administration along with the war against England. This convention consisted of 26 New-England Federalists all from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, and New Hampshire. This convention was held to talk about the opposition of the United States involvement in the war and how they viewed it negatively as they saw more negative benefits from this.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent was a treaty that British commissioners and American delegates came to decide on. This treaty was basically the end of the war and it was said that the British would give up the Northwest Territory that they had and in return both countries would work together to stop slave trade.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans was a battle between Great Britain (after they ceased in their battle with Napoleon) and the United States for the ownership of a very important American port. However. at the end of the day the United States won this battle and the British lost a vast majority of their soldiers during this war, far more than the Americans did. America still claimed their land and overcame the old European ideas of "the high social class should be the privileged in power".
