India and Pakistan started a war over the country of Bangledesh. This could have made people flee from India and Pakistan in order to avoid the war. In Life of Pi, They move from India to North America. The war could have influenced the decision for Pi's family to move from India to a different country to avoid the war. -

In 1972, India begins a program in order to protect the tigers. The tiger population has dropped very far over the years. They set up 9 tiger reserves all across India in order to keep the tigers from going extinct. The Patels were probably very happy with this new plan because they own tigers. -

On this date, India began testing bombs underground. This could have scared some people out of the country due to the threat of bombs. India could not have been very safe if they bagn to test Nuclear devices. This could have made people not feel safe causing them to flee the country. This could have been a reason Pi and his family left India. -

When she was found guilty, India was put into a state of emergency.They wereunsure what to do at this time after there leader was found guilty of this. This could have been another reason why Pi and his family left India and moved to North America. -

The communist party came into power in 1977. This could have made the people in my book angry and want to leave India. This was a very big change for a developing country like India. The communist party was expanding during this time period and they mostly targeted weaker countries. -

The prime minister of India lost her position of prime minister after many years. This could have effected the characters in my book because they may have agreed with what she was doing. This also could be a reason the Patel's left India. -
A Large Flood kills 1,921 People
A large disaster strikes India again. This time it kills over one thousand people and injured many more. during the 1970s India was struck with many different natural disasters. Such as tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods. This could have influenced the Patel family to move countries.
