    Opium War 1700s
    During the Opium war, China destroyed British opium shipments after China's government laws were against users and smugglers. This event effected the Chinese economy because it drained China of silver to pay for opium and the sphere of influence increased for foreign trade. Government interactions with the Chinese economy made laws to stop opium abuse. Also the United States along with other nations set up trade policies in China.

    Taiping Rebellion

    Within the fourteen years of The Taiping Rebellion more than twenty million people were killed and all the fighting weakened the Qing dynasty. Due to this event, it effected the Chinese economy by becoming more westernized as well as radical reformists demanded for an end to the Qing dynasty. Government interactions with the Chinese economy included Guang Xi issuing laws to update the civil service exam and Ci Xi opposed changes because it threatened the Confucian order.

    Cultural Revolution

    Mao launched the "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution" and it effected the Chinese economy by sending all work on farms in hope food production would improve and China would become modern. Also the government interactions with the Chinese economy was to get rid of a free market economy and own controlled resource industries for people of China.
  • Four Modernizations

    Four Modernizations
    Deng Xiaping becomes leader and this effects the Chinese economy because it boomed due to the end of isolation. Government interactions with the Chinese economy allowed two economic reforms based on capitalism, allowed private individuals to start a business, and also opening up for foreign trade.
