A treaty signed in Augsburg between Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and the Schmalkaldic League. The signing ended the religious struggle occuring between the two groups: Holy Roman Empire(Roman Catholicism) and Schmalkaldic League(Lutheranism). The treaty also allowed for rulers to choose between Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism as the official religion of their state. However the treaty is also known for ended a lot of the Christian unity in Europe.

A series of wars that took place in France between Catholics and Huguenots. Calvinism was spreading across France which caused Catherine de Médicis(the French ruler at the time) to show tolerance towards Huguenots. However this angered the Catholics and as a result they massacred Huguenots. Which led to the beginning of the uprises and eventually the wars.

The massacre of Huguenots caused by Catholics that occurred during the French Wars of Religion. Started after King Charles IX ordered the assassination of Huguenot leaders in Paris which then led to the start of the massacres. Catherine de Medici(King Charles IX's mother) was also a pushing factor in the massacres. As she had influenced her son to do what he had and also ordered the murder of a Huguenot leader two days earlier. It's said that about 70,000 protestants were killed all over France.

A grant signed by King Henry IV that gave the Huguenots substantial rights in France, which was primarily Catholic. King Henry was hoping to promote civil unity between the two groups. The edict led to secularism and tolerance. The edict gave Huguenots the civil rights that they deserved. It also ended the religious wars in France.

A war between Protestants and Catholics that primarily took place in Germany. After the Peace of Augsburg, which was supposed to end the conflict between the two groups, tensions rose between Protestants and Catholics. The tensions then came to a head when Bohemian Estates removed the Catholic King of Bohemia and offered the position to a Protestant. This in turn led to the beginning of the 30 Years' War and ended with Peace of Westphalia in 1648.

The name of the two peace treaties signed in two Westphalian cities that ended the 30 Years' War: Peace Treaty of Münster and Peace Treaty of Osnabrück. The treaties took place in two different cities because both the Catholics and Protestants wanted to meet in their own territories. 109 delegates were present for the signings.
