Once you have gone through the study mechanism, repeat this process in order to retain the information. Often (when I am being a good student) I reread my notes 5 times within a 20 min period. Sometimes I read the information out loud in various voices/accents to keep my brain occupied while I read, this also helps me to retain info! (It may seem silly but this has worked for me).
