    My wife, Sarah Sean, and myself step on the platform and look at this buildig, an American building. We walk in and see thousands of others such as Chinese, japanese, my own kind, Irish, and many more ethnics. We left Ireland to escape our severly disesed and poverty stricken village. Also, we wanted to start a new life in new land. As we walk through the disease checking center, I hear a cough slip out of my wifes mouth and then she was being dragged away by Americans.

    An English female nurse walks up to me and stares into my eyes. She looks down at her feet and looks back up at me. A small water droplet escapes from beneath her eyelids. She tells me that Sarah caught turbuculosis and died a few minutes before our chat. No tears, no expressions were covering my face. All I could do was stare, stare straight at this women.

    I find myself laying on the deck of this boat thinking about the last sentence that nurse told me. "Your wife told me to tell you before she died. She said that she wanted to start and finish the journey we started. Oe hour later I find myself holding an old, ratted bag filled with and extra poor of torn clothing and a gold locket that has been pasted down in my family for generations around my neck. The locket holds a silver heart encased in the middle.

    After sleeping under a bench for two days, I catch a man wearing a dark suit holding a sign saying,"Need work, hiring now!"
    I approach the man and ask," can have a job?"

    After working a wek ina defeathering chicken factory, I find myself with a dollar and ten cents. the other immagrants and I leave the factory at closing time at 10:30 pm. They walk there way and I walk my way, back to my bench. I have come familuar with the area and know a sewing shop around the corner from the ally that I walk. There can maybe afford a small blanket to stay warm that night. Next thing I know I feel an object being struck to the back of my head.

    After working for another two weeks, I had been beat up twice and robbed four times. I can't keep living like this. I am deciding that I am finally going on a quest to start a new life. I have two dollars in my pocket and the clothes on my back and head for the West.
