Tobacco Mosaic Virus
Marius Beijerinck was the first person to see a virus under a microscope. The Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) is transmitted when an infected leaf comes into contact with skin. TMV was the first virus to be seen under a microscope when Beijerinck discovered its ability to reproduce. -
Malaria
In 1898 the transmission of Malaria was found by Ronald Ross to be linked to the female Anopheles mosquito (Bynum 2020). -
Polio
The first version of the polio vaccine was tested by Jonas Salk in 1954. Salk's virus was the beginning of the near worldwide eradication of the virus. -
