    Montesquieu publishes book, On the Spirit of Laws
    Montesquieu first anonymously published, On the Spirit of Laws. Montesquieu wanted seperation of power which would make sure that no one man or group of people would take over the government. In 1751, the church banned the book.
  • America declares independence

    America declares independence
    In 1776, the declaration of independence was adopted by the second Continental Congress, which stated that America had declared war upon the British. Thomas Jefferson was selected to make the first draft of it.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    The French Revolution began in 1786 with the Estate-Generals. In the first year of the revolution, the Third Estate made the Tennis Court Oath, the destrution of one of France's biggest prisons, the Bastille, and the women's march on the king's palace in Versailles. In 1799, after 13 hard years, France finally had a stable government.

    Napoleon overthrows the Directory through a coup d'etat
    In 1799, one of Napoleon's directors, Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes urged Napoleon to take advantage of the weak government. The Directory was corrupt and need a real leader. Napoleon seized control of the government and named himself one of the three consuls.

    Napoleon had one many important victories as a strong military general. The people of France looked upon him as a role model. Napoleon wanted to become the only leader of France, so he called a vote for him to become emporer. After an easy win, Napolean asked the Pope to crown him, but ended up crowning himself.

    The Haitian revolution was a revolt in the French colony of San-Domingue which eraticated slavery and established Haiti as a country. The Haitian revolution was the only slave revolution that led to a free country. Touissant L'Overture led thousands of Africans to rebel against their European rulers.

    Padre Hidalgo calls for Mexican Independence
    Miguel Hidalgo arrived in Dolores, Mexico and was sympathetic towards the poor. In 1810, Hidalgo gave the famous, "The Cry of Dolores" speech attempting to lead an uprising against the Spanish. Hidalgo gained up to 90,000 of the poor in an army. Hidalgo ran into 6,000 highly trained Spanish troops that dispersed them.
  • Napoleon is defeated at the Battle of Waterloo

    In 1815, Napoleon was defeated.The Congress of Vienna declared Napoleon as an outlaw, so the countries, Russia, Austria, Prussia, and Great Britian created an alliance to end Napoleon's France. For three days, France and the Ango-Allied armies were at stand still. Until, Prussia arrived and helped their allies attack the enemy army. Napoleon surrendered and was banished to Saint Helena, where he died.
