  • Xinhai Revolution

    Xinhai Revolution
    The Xinhai was a revolution started by soldiers and citizens unhappy with the Qing Kingdom. The result of the overthrow of the Qing government was a democratic government taking over. This revolution is important becuase it marks the end of fingdoms in China and the start of multiple governemts rising up.   • First United Front

    First United Front
    The first united front consisted of the Nationalists and the Communists. This lasted till about 1927 when the nationalists turned on the communists. This is important because this showed that the chinese could stand united and try to defeat the Japanese.
  • Long March

    Long March
    The long march started in 1934 after the first united front broke apart. The red army had been dropped in numbers from 86,000 to just 40,000. Near the end of the march the second and fourth army reunited and continued and at the end had reunited with the first army. This is important because when the armies had reunited their numbers had grown and been more optimistic about the future.   • Zunyi Conference

    Zunyi Conference
    The Zunyi Conference is where Mao Zedong first came to power after the long march when the reunited armies discussed their next step of action. The Zunyi Conference is important because this is when the red army started turning the tide of the war against the nationalist.

    Second Sino Japanese War
    The second Sino Japanese war weakened the nationalist army and had provided the communists the time to gain land. While they gained land the nationalists slowly started losing support. The second Sino Japanese war is important because the communists were able to take advantage of the war and gain land leading them to win the civil war ending in 1949.     Beginning of Chinese Civil War
    The Chinese civil war started when the Japanese had been kicked out of China. There was a power vacuum and all sides were determined to win. There was the Communists and the Guomindang. The Guomindang was nationalists. This event is important because this was a beginning of the cold war between the communists and the democracies of the world.   • Establishment of People's Republic of China

    Establishment of People's Republic of China
    The communists had chased the Taiwanese out of China. Mao Zedong had declared the People's Republic of China a nation. This is important because this shows that the communists were rising and had made the cold war even more red/cold.   • Establishment of Taiwanese Government

    Establishment of Taiwanese Government
    The Communists had started chasing the nationalists out of the country. The nationalists had fled to North America and Taiwana and had set up a government there. This is important because it has started this akward sistuation with nations recognizing China and some recongnosing Tiwana.   • End of Chinese Civil War

    End of Chinese Civil War
    The Chinese civil war had ended after the communist had taken the Nationalist capital of Nanjing. The nationalists had fled the country to North America and Taiwan and the People's Republic of China had been founded along with the Taiwan government. This is important because this showed that communist was rising and made the cold war redder.

  • Chinese Involvement in the Korean War

    Chinese Involvement in the Korean War
    In 1950 when the Korean War started China was suspicious of the UN-backed forces thinking that this war was all a way for the US to gain allies against the communists. In late November the Chinese officially joined the war and had troops upwards of one million. The Chinese pushed the UN/US-backed forces to the 38th parallel.   • China Invades Tibet

    China Invades Tibet
    After the communist victory in China, the communists started invading Tibet. China started bringing in millions of its citizens into Tibet to prove that it was their historic land. The Chinese also started programs to try and wipe Tibetan language and culture from the region. This is important because this shows how powerful and how forcefull the Chinese can really be right after a civil war.
