On October 21st, 1918 the government STRONGLY recommended the use of masks in public areas. The "masks" that were used at first were gauze wrapped around a persons' mouth and nose. There are no clear statistics about the decrease of case numbers after masks were mandated because of the unpredictable nature of the flu. However, cases did begin rapidly falling. -
