    Mask Mandates in 1918

On October 21st, 1918 the government STRONGLY recommended the use of masks in public areas. The "masks" that were used at first were gauze wrapped around a persons' mouth and nose. The photo is a New York police officer wearing a mask shortly after the mandate. There are no clear statistics about the decrease of case numbers after masks were mandated because of the unpredictable nature of the flu. However, cases did begin rapidly falling.

This article was written shortly after the importance of wearing a mask was made apparent in falling case numbers. “CDC analyzed data from an internet survey of a national sample of 503 adults during April 7–9 and found that about 62% said they would follow the newly announced recommendations to wear a face mask when outside the home. A repeat survey during May 11-13 showed that the percentage of adults endorsing face mask wearing increased to more than 76%.”

  • COVID-19 Vaccine

This article discusses how the COVID-19 vaccine works and which vaccine is best for each individual person given their current medical status. The comparison between this vaccine and the influenza vaccine is hard to ignore. They are both unpredictable and scientists are researching each vaccine every day. This bring the question, will there be multiple strains of COVID-19? Will the vaccine actually cure the disease?
