    British defend Egypt against Italy and Germans under Rommel. British use Egypt as an airbase, but are soon driven out back to the Suez Canal.

    Consisting of Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt; this organization is formed in response to events in Lebanon and the Zionists.

    Gamal Abdel Nasser siezes power in a bloodless coup. King Farouk is exiled.

    Suez Crisis

    Egypt tries to nationalize the Suez Canal. Britain, France, and Israel invade. They destroy the Egyptian Air Force. The next day, international outrage forcees the British, the Isrelis and the French to retreat. Oddly enough, the only one who profits is Nasser, who not only gains the Suez Canal 12 years before the agreed-upon lease, but looks like a hero in the eyes of his people. (historyworld)

    War between Egypt and Israel over the Sinai peninsula. After six days of intense fighting the Egyptians surrendered. An estimated 11,500 Egyptian soliders were casualties.

    Former political lightweight and vice president to Nasser, Anwar as Sadat is elected president. He won an incredible 90% of the Egyptian vote.

  • Sadat's Peace Offers Rejected

    Satat announced a new peace plan that required Israel to give up art of the Sinai. This proposal was ignored by the USA and Isreal, and led directly to the Yom Kippur war.

    Egypt and Syria stage a surprise attack on Israel during a Jewish holiday. Though they fail to gain territory and are forced cease hostilities, Egypt and Syria force Israel to pay a high price and shatter Israel's reputation of invulnerability.

    Camp David Accords

    Egypt-Israel treaty takes effect when President Jimmy Carter invited Egypt's president Sadat and Prime Minister Begin to Camp David to negotiate. Israel returns the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt. Egypt is removed from the Arab League in response to the treaty with Israel.

  • Sadat Assassinated by Islamic radicals

    Sadat is assassinated by extremists during a parade in Cairo.

    Sadat appointed vice-president Mubarak to the presidency. He was approved by a national referendum.

    The military removes Morsi from office and he is replaced by Adli Mansour, the interim president. He will be in charge for 4 months until elections can be held.
