After the final song at mass I had many people coming up to me and complimenting me on my great reading. That sunny Sunday in June was my first day as a lector at my school parish, and it had gone very well. Of course I was nervous, but I was still able to deliver the second reading and prayers of the faithful with confidence. My church community was supportive and encouraging, and I was very thankful for them.

The referee's whistle shrieked as I hit the ground inside the box. Finally, after a tight match my team had a penalty shot and a chance to open the scoring. I got up and walked over to the penalty spot, taking the ball and setting it on the penalty spot. I took a deep breath. This was a big moment for my team, who were chasing the last spot in the playoffs. The pressure was on but I was confident in my ability, and after the ref's signal I slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. 1-0.

The instructor came out of the backroom and handed me a few pieces of paper. "Congratulations!" she said, "You passed with just one minor mistake." I was ecstatic! I had just passed my driver's exam and now had my own driver's license. I couldn't keep the smile off my face as I walked over to where my mom was sitting. I felt like I had so much freedom now, I could go anywhere I wanted by myself!
