Developmental Milestones

  • Birth

I was born on May 4th, 1990 to Charles and Shelley Albright
  • First Words

Somewhere around this date, at about eight months of age, I spoke my first word, dog.
  • First Brithday

This was my first birthday. My dad was in the Air Force so my immediate family lived in California while the rest of our extended family was in Michigan. My grandparents came to celebrate the milestone with us. It was a pretty special day since this was the first time I walked on my own.
  • New Attitude

My parents have always joked that I was a diva as a child. They say that just before my second birthday that trait really started to shine. I was always dancing, singing, and very particular about what I would and would not wear.
  • I guess i'm not a monkey

Sometime during the summer of being five years old, I attempted to jump from a chair into a tree after watching a monkey movie. I of course failed and injured my mouth, creating a small scar that is still visible to this day.
  • First Day Of Kindergarten

I started kindergarten this year at the age of five and began my seemingly never ending journey in school. If only we knew then what we know now and did not take this age for granted.
  • First Organized Sport

In the fall of 1996 my parents signed me up for my first ever organized sport, tee-ball. I did not stick with softball into my older years, but this paved the way for my love of sports.
  • As Fast As You Can

The Presidential Fitness Test was still a big deal when I was in school, competing in this in second grade made me want to be able to run just as fast as humanly possible. I really began focusing on athletics at this point in life.
  • Third Grade

My dad retired from the Air Force and just before my third grade year began, we moved to Michigan to be closer to family. I missed my friends a great deal, but I was also very excited to be so close to cousins now.
  • More Friends

Middle school was an awkward time for everyone, but this was the time where I made multiple friends that I am still close with today. It is definatey very important in developing people skills for adulthood.
  • Puberty Hits

I can remember being 13 now and really thinking that I could not be stopped. I thought I could run the fastest, and have the strongest kick on my soccer team. I was growing in a multitude of ways, and I had a pretty good hold of it.
  • Mental Instabillity

Oh to be 15 again. I would apologize to my family for being such a sucker to my hormones. I think every teenager has a stage like mine during adolescence that makes you rebel against everything your parents try to guide you with.
  • AP

Even through my pubescent hormones, I was able to maintain a great GPA and even get placed into AP classes, score very well on my ACT and get accepted to 4 year universities.
  • Turning 18

On May 4th 2008 I turned 18, was officially an adult, and then moved out on my own 3 months later into a college dorm. Since then I have lived out in the "real world."
  • Am I really done?

Sometime around this date I was cleaning out my old room and came across a picture of middle school where I was the tallest person in the class. I realized that I had not grown a single inch since then and am now very often the shortest person around.
  • Cohabitation

Just before Valentines day of 2011 my fiance and I moved in together. This was the first time I was cohabitating with a boyfriend.
  • Birth of first son.

Although the 'average age' for a woman to have her first child is 26, I was 21. I still stuck it out with college but was now also responsible for an infant. The struggles made me work even harder.
  • Future Biosocial Adulthood

In 2030 I will be 40yrs old. I hope to still take care of my body and mind at this time.
  • Future Adulthood Cognitive

At 45 I hope to still enjoy reading and learning to expand my knowledge of the world. Traveling and taking in as much as I can while still working seems to be very fulfilling.
  • Future Adulthood Psychosocial

At 55 I hope to be about 10yrs from retirement and still enjoying many friendships and possibly picking up new hobbies where I can meet new life long friends. Once you retire life can be more about enjoyment than it is just focused on work.
  • Future Late Adulthood Biosocial

In 2060 I will be 70yrs old. At this age I hope so still be very mobile and active, hopefully while playing and getting around well with my grandchildren. At 70yrs old there are a lot activities available to you presented by communities, I look forward to enjoying them.
  • Future Late Adulthood Cognitive

I know that diseases such as parkinsons, dementia and alzheimers are not common in my family, so hopefully I will still be able to mentally function well. I have seen a lot of patients at work suffer from these diseases, perhaps by time I reach this age a treatment will be out and helpful.
  • Future Late Adulthood Psychosocial

As a much older adult I do not know what to expect as far as a social life is concerned. A lot of people around this age, 90, live in nursing homes, so I really am unsure of how life will play out for me here. I hope to be lucky enough to remain in my own home instead of being cared for around the clock in a nursing home.
