    Ancient Times

    Humans began to store information in database systems used in government offices and libraries.

    Computers became more cost efficient. They started to create databses
  • 1976

    A new database model called Entity-Relationship or ER was proposed by P.Chen and later in the same year, was made posssible.
  • 1980's

    Structured Query Lanuage or SQL became the standard language
  • Mid 1990's

    The Internet led to exponential growth of the database industry. Average users began to use these applications to access computer systems that contained legacy data.
  • Today

    The leading database companies in the Western world are Microsoft, IBM, and Oracle. Today, we can use our databases so easily. Back in the day, you had to remember people's phone numbers or write it down. Today you have contact lists that stores all of the numbers on your contact list. Don't you just love databases!
