He made a small machine that made the numbers 129 when the numbers 1 2 were together, now it doesn't sound like much but back then, he showed it to some people and they realized this machine's potential, they gave Babbage enough money to buy two warships so he could create a real version of the machine, but he fell out with the engineer and tried training new ones until he ran out of money.
