The Shuddi Movement was started by Swami Sharddhanand. In this Movement the Hindus wanted to convert all the Muslims in the sub-continent into Hindus.
The Sangathan Movement was started by Pandit Madan Mohan. In this movement the Hindus wanted to reunite all the different sections of the Hindus into one powerful nation. This movement later adopted the policy of "India for Hindus only". -
Lord Birkenhead, the Secretary of the state of India, sent the Simon Commission to find out the views of the main political parties in India. The members of the Commission were all British parliamentarians; no Indian was a member. When the Simon Commission arrived in India, the crowd greeted them with slogans saying "Simon, Go Home". The political leaders of the Congress and Muslim league boycotted them. The Simon Commission was abandoned before it got published.

As a result of the Simon Commission, an All Parties Conference was held in Delhi in 1927. A committee led by Motilal Nehru and T.B. Sapru was formed to draft a future Constitution for India. This caused the Nehru Report to be formed. The Nehru Report stated the Princely states of India and the British would join in a Federation. The power would rest in the Federation only, the provinces were to be not given any power. Elections were now going to be held as a join election.

When the Nehru Report was created, the Muslim League had rejected it but they later agreed to it on some conditions. Those conditions were rejected by the Congress. Mr. Jinnah then came up with his 14 points that would help the Muslims, and the Congress needed to accept these points for further participation of the Muslims in future events. These points were fair and just and were not unfair for anyone, however Mr. Jinnah's 14 points still got rejected.

In 1930 Mr. Gandhi decided to start his own civil disobedience to pressurise the British even more. The caused the salt march to start. In the salt march Gandhi and his followers started to march towards the coast of Gujarat. They decided to collect salt from there. At that time, the British had placed a monopoly on the distribution of salt. The people were collecting salt freely and this later became a country-wide movement. By the end of 1930, Gandhi and his supporters were imprisoned.

With the denial of the 14 points that were proposed by Mr. Jinnah, Allama Iqbal decided to hold a joint session in Allahabad. In the session Allama Iqbal stated that the Muslims need a separate state in which the Muslims would be in majority. Allama Iqbal also stated the areas that he thought should be in the separate nation for the Muslims. He stated that,"I would like to see the Punjab, North-West frontier province, Sindh and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single state.
