    Bush, a member of the republican party, was elected as the President of the United states. He began a war with Iraq that is still going on. Many Americans have gone to battle and have lost their lives in this bloody event.

    911 Attacks
    A terrorist group destroyed the world Trade center and The Pentagon. 2,819 people perished as a result of their actions.This terrifying event has left its mark in the fear that lingers throughout America even today. Security has been increased in most public places, and a war arose due to the threat of terrorism.
  • Air Marshals Stationed on all Air-Planes

    Air Marshals Stationed on all Air-Planes
    This event is when having “air marshals” on all or most planes became mandatory. These people are present during flights in order to protect the passengers from possible attacks they may encounter. This is a precautionary effort in order to prevent further acts of terrorism. This safety measure was taken due to the attacks on september 11, 2001.

    The ban of many deadly weapons expired, giving gun violence in the United States a possible new, even more dangerous nature. Gun control is important for the existence of peace in society. Without these necessary bans there is a high risk of a rise in violent crime.

    Hurricane Katrina
    This massive category 3 hurricane destroyed or damaged much of Louisiana and New Orleans. More than one hundred people lost their lives as a result of this natural disaster. The United States government experienced immense difficulty and time delays in sending help to the refugees, causing many deaths.

    I remember my elementary school fondly, as I received a great education that gave me the fundamentals to do well all through junior high, and also helped me meet great friends. The first day was the beginning of an amazing experience.

    Barack Obama was elected, making him the first ever black president of the United States of America. His democratic opinions were welcomed by many, after a less than perfect republican president in the previous years. Obama not only marks an important milestone in the evolution of racial equality in America, but he also has done relatively well in terms of mending the economy, and fixing other political mistakes that had been made before hs presidency.

    President Bush had placed restrictions on the amount of money that the government could give to embryonic stem cell research. These restrictions were overturned. This event could lead to astounding medical achievements, saving countless lives.

    My second grade class performed a short half-hour long show. This was the first time I ever really performed in front of anyone and I fell in love with it. Since then I have refined my skills a bit, and hope to be in many more musicals in years to come,

    This created a love for reading within me. By creating a competition around an activity that many considered mundane, I made myself read at least 100 pages every night because I wanted to win. I believe that it enriched my vocabulary and improved my reading comprehension abilities, helping me with school even to this day.

    Osama bin Laden, the suspected mastermind of the attacks on september 11, 2001, was shot and killed by the United States military after years of living in hiding. Bin Laden was an influential terrorist, and his death was a large US victory. This event also caused a huge boost in morale in regard to the war against terrorism, inspiring hope in citizens of America.

    At the first rehearsal for a community production of A Christmas Carol, I encountered someone who would go on to be one of my very best friends, even years later. This person has been a huge positive influence on my life. He has helped me through difficult times, and I have tried my very best to help him. He has made me into an overall better person.

    Congress passed this act on the first day of January, and Obama signed it the next day This act kept away the “fiscal cliff” which would have meant huge tax increases and the number of unemployed americans would have increased, causing much poverty and difficulty for a huge number of americans.

    I realized the monotony and meaninglessness of religion did not suit me as I sat in a ridiculous religious service. I came to the decision that I do not believe in a higher power. This has impacted my political opinions by removing any religious bias from my views. My morals are no longer dictated by some celestial being that no one can communicate with.

    I began allstar cheerleading because my older sister did it. This competition however, opened my eyes to how wonderful the sport truly is. Cheer has driven me to be stronger, both physically and mentally, and in that way it has had a long-lasting effect on my life.

This has impacted same sex couples everywhere, enabling them, not only to be legally married, and to have their love recognized, but also to be able to receive the benefits married couples are granted.
  • Learning to Play the Ukulele

    Learning to Play the Ukulele
    For years I was told to play a musical instrument. Finally, I began to teach myself to coax a tune out of this odd, tiny, guitar-like object. This instrument has taught me both patience and the merits of practice. It has helped me realize that I am capable of anything, and that you do not necessarily need talent, just dedication.
