    Mongols permanently kicked out

    The Ming Dynasty booted out the last of the Mongol rulers in China and restored power over the empire to the native Chinese.

    Zhenghe Expeditions
    Between 1405-1423, Zhenghe had seven expeditions overseas. The expeditions were when Yunglo was Ming emperor.
  • Nurhaci

    Nurhaci was the first Qing leader. He was successful and ruled from 1616-1626.
  • Manchu Rebellion

    The Ming Dynasty called the Manchus to help stop a rebellion so the Manchus passed the Great Wall. When the Manchus were inside, they took advantage and took over the Ming.

    China secluded itself from Christian influnce because they wanted to keep their own culture. Christian missionaries were banned and weren't allowed.
  • Banned Trading in Canton

    China banned trading with Europeans in one of their cities, Canton, due to fear of European advances
  • Opium Dealers

    Qin emperors were trying to stop opium taffic, and then some changes were made. In the early 1820s the opium dealers were from Canton to islands and other hidden locations.

    About 400 million people of China's population was addicted to the drug. In the early 18th century, Qing emperors made eddicts to forbid opium traffic.

    Eureope won the Opium war in the 1850s against China. When they won they were able to force China to open trade. So China started trading and there were diplomatic changes as well.

    The Taiping Rebellion begin in 1850-1860, and it was led by Hong Xiuquan. It won victories against Qin forces.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    The Boxer rebellions broke out in 1898. The Qing backed the Boxer rebellion, which was to expel the foreigners from China. It failed and gave control to the Europeans over China's internal affairs.

    Leaders encouraged western investment in railways and factories.

    Abolishments of Civil Service Exams
    Advisors of the empress Cixi had concluded that solutions to China's predicament could no longer be found in the Confucian learning the exams tested.

    The revolution in 1911 toppled the Qing Dynasty

    The last emperor of China, Puyi, was out. There was another lord who was asked to make a republican government so China becaome a republic.
