  • Communists Win Chinese Civil War

    Mao Zedong and the communists win the Chinese Civil War in 1949, leading to the communist control over China. Jiang Jieshi was kicked out of China after losing the war.
  • Soviet-Chinese Treaty of Friendship

    In 1950, after China's communist takeover, many other communist nations supported them. This led to China and the USSR to create and sign a treaty of friendship.
  • The Great Leap Forward

    In 1958, Mao Zedong attempted to expand on his first Five Year Plan. He started collective farms in an attempt to boost economy and growth. It unsuccessfully ended in 1961 after crop failures, leading to the deaths of 20 million people.
  • Chinese Cultural Revolution

    From 1966 to 1976, China experienced a cultural revolution, revolving around communism. The little red book was published, and communist beliefs were praised and practiced. Anyone who didn't support communism was usually killed, leading to many deaths during this time period.
  • Protest for Demoncracy

    Chinese students protested for more freedoms and to establish a democracy in the spring of 1989. Unfortunately the government suppressed this protest and many students were killed.
