    This was when China's last Dynasty ended, opening the door for the different types of government are allowed to form and China has broken free from 2000 years of dynastic rule.

    The Establishment of Republican China
    This was when China offically transitioned from an Empire and became the Republic of China. The government was a republic, and its first president was Yuan Shikai.
  • Nationalists Win First (only election)

    In 1913 the Nationalist Party wins China's first and only elections. Shortly afterwards Yuan Shikai dissolves the parlament, taking many of the powers for himself and his cabinet. This is China's first step towards a more non-democratic government.

    May 4th, protests by the Chinese people mostly Chinese students in response for China's little part in the Treaty of Versailes. They also protested against the role which the government played in their lives. These protests began a series of protests across China. And began the shift from an elitest society to a more populous society.

    This was when the Communist Party in China was offically created in Beijing. The party would go on to play a huge role in China's government in the future. Its creation also showed that the people of China were beginning to support other parties besides the Nationalists. It shows that they wanted change.

    This was when the Nationalist party led a massive military movement to unify China and get rid of the warlords who held much of the northern region of the nation. This shows that the Nationalists were ready to govern and unify all the Chinese people as one. To bring them together and grant them a sense of nationalism.

    This is when the famous and most well known leader of the Republic of China becomes president. Chiang Kai-Shek. In the future leads China through multiple historical moments, such as the Chinese Civil War, World War II, and many others.
  • Beginning of the Long March

    This was when Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalists began their campaign against the Communists in China. This is the Nationalists one of the main events during of a long and brutal civil war. It also was the beginning of the Long March, when the Communists left Jiangxi and headed to Northern China.
  • Mao Zedong Takes control of the Communist Party

    Mao Zedong Takes control of the Communist Party
    Midway through the Long March, during the Zunyi Conference, Mao Zedong took over leadership of the Communist Party. He is the one who makes China Communist in 1949.
  • Kidnapping of Chiang Kai-shek

    The Communists kidnapp Chiang Kai-shek, and hold him hostage. They however realease him when they realize that the threat from Japan was the more important thing at the time. It was the enemy of my enemy is my friend type of thing.

    The Communists and Nationalists unite to fight against Japan, this is siginified by the release of Chiang Kai-shek. This here shows the Communists and Nationalists uniting against a common enemy. The Japanese. This lasts from 1937- 1945
  • Civil War Begins Anew

    The Unity between the Nationalists and the Communists crumbles, and the civil war continues until 1949. This here shows the failure on both sides to ignore their differences and work together in order to run China. The need for peace here is ignored by both sides because they both wanted power.
  • End of Civil War and Beginning of People's Republic of China

    End of Civil War and Beginning of People's Republic of China
    The Communist Party won the Civil War against the Nationalists, and by the end of 1949 ruled all of mainland China. This here shows the fall of Chiang Kai-shek and his government who fled to Taiwan. China then moved on to become a Communist State led by Mao Zedong until 1976
