    Rice has been cultivated in China for over 4,000 years now and has for a long time been the largest agricultural product of China. The meanings for food and agriculture are the same as the meaning for rice. The cultivation of rice was greatly benefited by the Song dynasty. Rice is often grown in terraces for space and better growth and water filtration.

    The Great Wall of China was built as defense between different provinces of China. When China became an Empire, the Wall of China was built on the north side of China to defend China from the Mongols in the north. After the Ming dynasty pushed the Mongols back out of China, they rebuilt the wall in the north longer and with better materials to defend from any future invasion.

    China is the largest producer of coal in the world and about 5% of the produced coal is from surface mining. Surface mining has been used as a mining method in China since 1900. The main method of Surface Mining is open pit mining.

    In 2008 China banned grocery store plastic bags to reduce pollution before the 2008 China Olympics. This and a policy that reduced the amount of cars on the road by 50% greatly cleared Beijing's smoggy city air for the international visitors.
